The heat here is almost too much, but at least Shelby and Max have a nice breeze keeping them comfortable. I haven't been able to coax them to try a bath yet, but we give the sink and a trickle of water a look each day. Maybe in a couple weeks I will try the kitchen sink sprayer when they are much more comforatable with their new life. They have just started the budgie "chittering" in the last couple days so they're settling in.

What I find interesting is the little finches that I have are so much braver about trying new stuff. Hang a new piece of food in the cage or in a little dish on the floor of the cage and after eyeballing it from a couple different angles for about a minute, they just dive right in. Hang some little nests in the cage and after half an hour, they're are beginning to decorate. Budgies on the other hand, well, lets just say that days later, maybe longer, they are giving it a go!

My two guys, Shelby and Max are really different from each other regarding activity levels too. Max (the blue one) doesn't hesitate to try to fly even though his wings are clipped. Shelby on the other hand, doesn't even try. If I gently drop my hand (while he is on it), to encourage a bit of excercise, he just grabs on tighter with his toes but doesn't move his wings. Maybe he just is so discouraged about having clipped wings that he has become resigned and won't even try. It will be interesting to see how his attitude changes as his feathers grow back in. Anyway, I must get supper started so have fun here tonight.

Debby

:) Hi Debby, yes they all have their own little personalities and quirks, no two are alike. For my birds that don't like to bathe (and those that do) I have a very fine plant mister that I fill up with warm water and they don't seem to mind it that much. Nobody has ever cared for the spray function from the sink faucet (maybe it's a little heavy for them?) but then some members have birds that just adore the shower and sink, so that again, is up to the birds' liking. I know what you mean about the heat but we won't get any sympathy here as. for a lot of the folks, these are normal temps! :(

Sounds like they are settling in well, and I'm sure it won't be long before they are bathing like crazy. Try putting damp vegies (lettuce, celerey leaves etc) in their cage, they will often roll around in them and get wet. Seems to encourage them to try a bath.

Celery tops dipped in water are a good way to get beginners (or loonies like my Grayson) to flap around in as a 'shower'.

I hang romaine lettuce (freshly washed) in the cage and mine roll around in it. Sometimes they come out a little green but they've enjoyed the refreshing water!

welcome mine 2 are not fond of bathing. At times Pretty will get going with the lettuce in a bowl and Merlin in his water dish but not full blown like some budgies in the sink.

Anyways welcome and do you have pics you can post
