Posted June 30, 200618 yr Just thought I'd better introduce myself since I'm finally getting a budgie. I've had all sorts of pets all my life and have never been without any. When I was younger that meant cats and dogs. Later, I got heavily into aquarium fish. If any of you want to see my page on fish, it's Lisa's Lair. There's also a link on that page to the little page I did for our finches that we have. We have zebra finches, gouldians, stars, societies and owl finches. We are caretaking a native mourning dove that has a broken wing. It's taken to life in a cage quite well so far. It eats the same seeds the finches do quite well. It's going to a rehab place once the person who gave it to us can find one that'll take it. I'm looking forward to getting our little budgie friend. My brother had one while we were growing up. He taught it to sit on your finger, though it really preferred sitting on your head or the curtains (my mother hated that! (Laughing out loud)). He (I'm assuming here since I don't recall too many details on the bird) was called J.J. He was a normal green I believe. To see a picture of my family, click here. I hope that's enough of an intro. Lisa
June 30, 200618 yr I had a yellow labidochromis, a blue guy that was always a mystery I swear he loved to have his picture taken, he looked just like this one http://www.liveaquaria.com/images/general/...b_22674P_76.jpg, a red zebra, and an albino. They were really cool, my roommate put windex or some kind of cleaning chemical in my fishtank and killed them all. I had them for 5 years Edited June 30, 200618 yr by Celeste
June 30, 200618 yr Author Your blue guy looks like a Sciaenochromis fryeri (electric blue). That sucks your roommate killed them. I sure hope it was by accident. How come you didn't get any more?
June 30, 200618 yr It wasn't an accident. She told someone else that she did it because she didn't like the water noise. I moved about 3 weeks after it happened and my tank got broken. I'd love to get another one sometime in the near future though. The blue guy had yellow spots on his anal fin as well. He really liked tuna. Edited June 30, 200618 yr by Celeste
June 30, 200618 yr welcome Lisa, Have you had many thought on what colour your hoping of getting, or just keeping an open mind??
June 30, 200618 yr Hello to a fellow Canuck! I had a fish tank for 7 years until I had a major accident and everybody died and decided to get more into birds. Had African Cichids for about the first year and then moved on to other hardy types of fish (have well water and didn't want to play junior chemist). Welcome!
July 1, 200618 yr Lin, all i can tell you is look in my signature Shes the yellow/green dilute spangle hen Lisas coming up to get her soon! Lisa!! I never knew you had/have cichlids! I also have a 46g bowfront tank full of demasoni, caeruleus, estherae, and ob estherae. The tanks is sadly turned green becuase of sunlight, and its not going away with water changes and a algae chemical. So, im getting rid of them all... I guess i can offer you then too? For a small pirce that is, since they are quit gorgeous, and demasoni are $19.99 each in stores I also have a 15g saltwater fish tank in my room, with a occellaris clown, and a green chromis... Anyways, COME GET TANGO!!! Shes waiting for ya! (Im replying to PM right now...) Kirby
July 1, 200618 yr Author Sorry to hear that Celeste. I'd be more than a little angry with a room-mate that did that to my fish. Nerwen, as Kirby mentions, I'm coming up to get Tango sometime soon. Phoebe, I find it interesting that most fish keepers go one of two ways it seems. They either get birds or they go into reptiles too. I like the look of reptiles, but I don't want any! Whew Kirby, don't know on the fish. I'll have to see them first Thanks everyone for the warm welcome.
July 1, 200618 yr Well I had birds and fish at the same time I had a dog. Procured more birds after my fish died and even more birds after the love of my life dog had to be put down. Have all the Python accessories to drain the tank, although fish are pretty, can't get into them anymore.
July 1, 200618 yr (Laughing out loud) Lisa... thats the thing, (Laughing out loud). You cant see in the tank, its totally green  (Laughing out loud). When i get home, im going to do a 80% water change, then fill up with new water. Im also going to dose with the aglae chemical...it worked before :bluebudgie: I replyed to your PM... Anytime soon is great with me... Shes waiting still! (Laughing out loud) Kirby
July 1, 200618 yr Hi Lisa, Welcome to the forum. Hope you enjoy that little Tango. Are you going to rename her??
July 1, 200618 yr Author No, Tango is a good name, and I don't want to confuse her. Kirby, is your tank right in front of a window or something? The only other reason you'd get so much algae is if you're feeding your fish too much, or have too many in the tank. I know the algaecide works, but what will happen is all that dead algae gives off nutrients to work up to a new algae bloom. That's why I don't use them. Find the root cause of the problem, and deal with that. Then it goes away. Oh, and Kirby, don't change 80%. That's very stressful on the fish. Do maybe 50%. (Laughing out loud) When I want green water I can never make it happen! Green water is great fry food for fish with very small babies. :sport:
July 4, 200618 yr Welcome to the forum. Best of luck with little Tango. Take good care of her for Kirby.
July 5, 200618 yr Author I'll do my best. It should be okay, considering the menagerie we have already. Thanks for the welcome.
