Unfortunately the YF albino and the blue baby seem to have been forced from the nest. I have checked closer and found the poor blue baby has been pecked severely around the head and the YF albino also has been pecked. I am assuming it is the mother Ming who has done this as she is an aggressive bird with her nesting instincts and these babies were perching right next to her box. I have provided a hollow log for the babies on the aviary floor and all three are safely within it. They can eat there. Ming is all too ready to have round two of babies I think. The injured babies have been treated....and Dad feeds them. If dad doesnt continue to feed I will bring them inside in a smaller cage. Here is photos of the wounded babies ....

( looks worse than it is ) july06244.jpgjuly06247.jpg

*******CORRECTION*******

We have worked out it was another female bird who attacked these babies and she has been removed. Mother nad father feeding babies and the worst attacked baby is doing fine now.

I have bathed and treated the blue budgie baby. He has lost a lot of feather from his head, and has two deepish wounds to his scalp. He has been treated with antibiotics against infection, but seems fine so far.

Oh dear. Well he's in good hands, so I hope he'll turn out just fine!! :)

It amazes me how these cute little things can turn so vicious especially to their own babies!! I had 4 hand reared babies in a cage yesterday in my lounge room when I heard a terrible noise. By the time I investigaged one of my babies had attacked 2 of his siblings which both sadly died a few minutes later. I was heart broken and still get teary just thinking about it. They were getting along fine and almost ready to be weaned off their hand rearing mix. Why do they do this kind of thing ??? :)

Hard to anticipate something like that and do anything about it. I am very sorry for your lost babies. :( I will keep a closer eye on this one and bring it inside if I feel it needs more attention. The babies are safe in a log hideaway and have egg and biscuit at hand. Cheeta...? Do you want another free blue baby budgie ? :)

Cheeta, you know I WANT all my babies. But I can think of no better home than yours. Also is a good excuse to get a new one for you. And this one is needy and can be a cuddly one. Might take awhile to look prettier again and feather up, but should be okay. It should be eating by two days or so if not already. I have put some soaked bread and egg and biscuit in for them and will watch. It is looking much better than earlier. Also the culprit of the attack has been identified and sorted out, so they are in no more danger. Ken has a severely bitten finger to prove we got it right about the attacker.

Yeah, I know... I was just kidding.. :(

Soooooo are you keeping that creamino baby?!?! I'd be happy to take that one of your hands too...

it looks like a boy to me... hehehehe.. :) *hint hint*... (Laughing out loud)

Even parents and siblings can inflict this kind of damage on a baby if the mood takes them. We have heard of it many times on here. Its just one of those things.

Hmmmm a personal visit hey... I think I can manage that if it'll convince you... hehehe... *Thinking about the creamino boy.....*

I might have to keep this one since it's split to lacewing. Or I can get one from next clutch if you REALLY want this one. :(

:( So sorry they got hurt, but glad they are doing fine, you have to wonder about Mother Nature sometimes (and even more about Human Nature!) :)
