Posted June 29, 200619 yr Hi just have a few questions bout Olly, i still can't really tell the sex, the cere is mainly white/clear with a little bit of a blue tinge around the bottom. Will try and get some photos up soon. Also lately i've noticed any toys that arent tied onto his cage get thrown on the floor of his cage and hes been biting me a lot in the cage but doesn't bite out of the cage, or if you stick your finger inthe cage he will try and bite you. Is he just protective of his cage i got no idea whats going on???
June 29, 200619 yr Sounds like you have a girl. Is she tame at all? or are you starting from stratch? If the second then I say be slow and gentle, talk all the time while you are putting your hand in the cage, use millet a a treat to let her know that hands are not a bad thing. The bird sees the cage as 'her space' and your hand as a preditor (sp?) she needs to understand you will not hurt her. Also try not to react to the bites, when you pull your hand away this is letting her know that behaviour is working in her favour and she will continue with harder bites. June 29, 200619 yr do you find she is protecting a certain toy? Make sure you also change the cage around 1 a week because they can become protective of their habitat. Is your bird starting to molt too? This could be hormones, I would keep the daylight hours less too and keep covered for at least 12 hours at night.
July 1, 200619 yr Olly is pretty tame, he never used to mind me putting my hand in his cage and he will climb on me for hours and go for a fly and come back to me. When do they usually have their first moult?? I'm pretty sure hes not moulting now. I hand feed her millet everynow and then but mainly when she is in the cage. She doesnt bite hard enough for my to flinch but shes getting harder. It could be that she doesn't like me grabbing her to take her out of the cage but lately i've been getting her to climb my arm to get out now i know she won't fly away. The ceres got me though i got no idea whether Ollys a boy or girl.
July 1, 200619 yr First moult is around the 3 month mark, and you will see heaps of pin feather pop out all over her head. Is there a chance of any pictures?
