Posted June 27, 200618 yr Hi People, The latest news with this bird is starting to look better. This bird was a huge baby, and has a lot of problems that other babies do not have. At 5 weeks it was already alot bigger then the parents, which are both of the larger end of the scale. It could not sit on perches, walk properly and spent most of the time lying on he bottom of the breeding box. Well he or she is now about seven weeks and is showing slow signs of improvement. Each day I spend time help it to sit on the perch (which before it would just fall straight off) and now it can sit by itself for short times. I bring it inside where it exercises it wings but can only fly to the ground. It walks around alot more than before even the it does not stand upright properly. It still has a poopy backside, however I think alot gets stuck on it because it crawls alot. I have now put it in a small flight cage with 3 other babies, feeding itself okay. Heres hoping for the best. Cheers...look forward to your feedbacks. Edited June 27, 200618 yr by Paulh29

June 27, 200618 yr gorgeous bird he reminds me of my Merlin alot, very stock. Merlin still stands with his feet spread apart compared to Pretty. Glad he is doing well.
June 28, 200618 yr wow what a big bird I'm glad he is looking heaps better than at 4 weeks, have you taken him for a vet trip?

June 28, 200618 yr With so many issues, I think an avian vet is necessary at this point. How much does your budgie weigh? What kind of diet is he on? Definitely get him in for a thorough exam as it's likely there is something physical going on that is causing the "lameness."
June 28, 200618 yr Yeah that's why I asked, a vet would be able to do many test to see if what cuased this is likly to reaccur or contagious!
July 2, 200618 yr also a vet trip may find an underlying problem that can be addressed and it could be the difference of you having him for a little while or a long time I know which option i would prefer..
July 2, 200618 yr Author Hi people, Buddah has improved alot in the past couple of days. He now has his own cage inside and doing well. He is able to climb his little ladder to get to a perch and is able to keep himself on the perch. Great news so far. Cheers Paul

July 2, 200618 yr Keep persevering with him, he's beautiful. Like a big gangly puppy it might take him a bit longer to find control of himself. He reminds me of my Grey Fatty!!! Good luck
