well i would say the petey and i are moving along pretty good. i bought some millet last night and put a small piece in his cage. i didnt get the reaction i was hoping for. he really doesnt seem to go crazy for it. i put a small piece in his bird seed, and he just moves it over to get to the seed under it.

so far ive got him to step up onto a round swing with me holding it, but he then flys off after a second or two. i left the cage door open this morning while i was sitting by it, and he stood in front of the door like he wanted to come out, but never did. im going to try again tonight when i get off of work.

is there anything else i can use as a treat to get him on my finger, since he doesnt like millet that much. or do you think he will start to like millet more and more.

My birds will come for broccoli too. Sometimes they come for millet and sometimes not. I think it depends on when they have last eaten. Seems to work best for me early evening.

if you continue to add the millet to the cage for a week he may come around you may be surprised and then you can take it out for just a treat since it is a fattening seed. If birdseed is working continue with it, veggies if he eats them now if not I would just do the same with them introduce them and let him try and taste them. You may have to add birdseed to the veggies to get it started.

yeh i was reading other posts, and saw that some of the keets like snow pea sprouts. i think next time im at the store i might try to find some. im also going to try some brocli. once i get him to come out of his cage, im going to put a dish with veggies on top of the cage to act like a treat so he will eat it.(i hope)

i know this isnt very pc but i just kept chasing oscar till he got really fed up flying away!!! i cant get rid of him now! :(

so you just kept putting your finger infront of him till he just stepped up, and that worked for you.

yup - we were chasing him round the living room for ages too!!! i found it easier to finger train outside the cage though - most people will probably say thats wrong but its always worked for me!!

I did that with Merlin  but not Pretty did the whole thing in the cage and now he is finger tamed out of the cage but not in anymore :glare:

yeh, i think ill try alittle bit more in the cage, and then out. im going to see if he will come out of the cage tonight though.

also what are you thoughts on using a tape recorder to teach him to talk.

I didn't to the tape recorder, I just talked to Pretty everyday and he started to talk after 8 months, now Cheeky's Oscar is already talking. I know it really depends on the bird, maybe you should start a new topic about this and get a better response.

Ive been glove training Moon in and out of the cage for about a day now. Moon has come a long way. In just a day I have the little bugger sit on my finger nervously. I have to take the bottom part off of her cage for her to come out. At first he poo was watery from stress, then she calmed down. I think she will get used to being out of the cage soon. So far so good! :(

Kristina, why are you using a glove? Due to biting? Doesn't it scare your bird?
