Posted June 19, 200619 yr 3 of Raibows and Bluey's babies appear to have trained themselves. We removed them from their parents about 4 days ago, and they automatically run to the cage door when anyone enters the room, and when you got to touch the door, they are on it. Then If your too slow putting your hand in and out, they come out, walk up your arms and sit on your shoulder. You can walk all around every room in the house and they just sit on you. And they actually sit there and let you pick then up from the back. I have never had birds this tame before. But they dont like going back to bed:P We hand raised tweetie from 3 weeks & 4days, (she is now 21 months old), but we can never pick her up or hold her, she will sit on you and step up etc, come when called, but we have never been able to hold her.
June 20, 200619 yr I thought that was normal for fledglings, as all mine did the same thing. I could walk all around the house with them on my arm or shoulder or head, and they'd just stay there. If they flew off somewhere, I just had to place a finger in front of them and they would step right up. Enjoy it while you can, because if you still have them when they get about 3 or 4 months old, that behaviour stops, LOL. That's about the time they get "attitude"...
June 21, 200619 yr Author Aww shucks Rainbow, I though I had the dream budgies : Wishful thinking huh! Cindy
June 21, 200619 yr You could be lucky and they might retain it. I have a line of budgies where the first born from each generation tame themselves. Actually Boris' half sister is pretty tame too and she has never been handled.
