Posted June 17, 200619 yr Hiya, When we bought Oscar we guessed he was about 9 weeks old - he had big black eyes with no iris ring, a pink cere and a black stripe on his very orange beak which i thought was a sign of a very young bird. He also had head bars almost down to his cere although they were very light. Now about 7 weeks later his cere has turned blue and his wee black bit on his beak has disappeared. He still has his stripes as he hasn't moulted yet. However he has really bright iris rings and reading other posts this isn't supposed to happen until about 9 months?? What do you guys reckon??
June 17, 200619 yr It seems to be happening earlier and earlier these days. I don't know why. I have youngsters getting iris rings and blue ceres at 4 months onwards.
June 17, 200619 yr Don't worry you were probably right on the age, Merlin's is turning blue too and I swear I see the iris rings and he just around 3 months now.
June 19, 200619 yr With the normals, the iris rings begin to appear earlier than with some other mutations. They also seem to be more obvious. I'm not sure where the 9 months comes in.
