Nail Clipping

Featured Replies

Posted

Billy is about 7 months old and his nails have never been clipped, when he walks on a flat surface his toes get pushed to the side now as I think the nails are too long.

Do I trim his nails, and is so, how and with what? How would he hold still?

Also, the end of his nails are looking black, do you know what would cause this?

Thanks.

I would suggest bringing him to an avian vet. You could do the clipping yourself but you risk cutting too far and clipping a vein. If your budgie is very fidgety this would prove even more difficult. Bring him to the vet, much easier for you and the birdie.

clipping nails is simple but you can snip to close which can cause an issues. Call your vet or even the pet store and see if they will do a nail clip where you can observe and learn. It wouldn't cost more the 5.00 US and worth the learning experience.
