Posted June 11, 200619 yr My new birdie Fez is a little bit confusing! He is solid white (including wings) except for 2 small spots (about 1/3 cm in diameter) on the lower half of his chest as well as 3 on his back. He's also got pink feet and a bright orange beak. So... what in the world is he?? I think recessive pied, you all are better at this than I am. Edited June 11, 200619 yr by Celeste
June 11, 200619 yr Author Unfortunately no, my digital camera was stolen so I need to take pics with a disposable until I can afford a new one Which as it turns out will be later today *jumps up and down* Edited June 11, 200619 yr by Celeste
June 12, 200619 yr Author Thanks guys I think he/she is really pretty too. (Laughing out loud) but anyone have an idea about color?!?!
June 12, 200619 yr Is say double factor dominant pied... Becuase his beak is orange, and recessive pieds have yellowish, more greeny beaks. Dominants are pure orange, and look identical to that... Kirby
June 12, 200619 yr Author Kirby, you're awesome! What do you think, boy or girl? Edited June 12, 200619 yr by Celeste
June 13, 200619 yr http://www.geocities.com/budgie-place/p_co...ml#dominantpied go here you will see picture of your pied, and Kirby is right . Double factors, will get iris rings & there cere will turn blue for boys and tan for girls (most of the time) It is hard to tell because the picture of the cere is blurry if you can get a close up and adjust the camera to close up that would be better to tell. Pretty budgie!
June 13, 200619 yr Author okay I got the best pics of the cere I could - the camera is a little blurry
June 13, 200619 yr I see the white nares BUT Pretty had small white nares rings. Are they very white or like transparent like? if they are really white girl but transparent like boy
June 13, 200619 yr Author They're fairly transparent, I'm a little on the fence about Fez's gender because of the white nares but the outline of the cere has a faint blue color coming in. I'm thinking boy but it'll probably show more clearly one way or the other in the next few weeks/months.
June 13, 200619 yr If you think that I would go boy, that is what happened to Pretty and if you check out my siggy you can still see the white rings but in real life they are transparent bluish.
June 13, 200619 yr YAY I GOT IT RIGHT!!! WHOOT WHOOT!!! I have NO clue about gender though Im saying female though... Ceres so blue, and white kinda...??? Kirby
June 14, 200619 yr the first molt you will know, that is what I was told mine was mixed too and Pretty ended being a boy which I was happy about.
June 14, 200619 yr How old is Fez? Such a pretty bird, and could be doublefactor dominant pied. I will have to disagree with Kirby though about the beaks... Recessive pieds will have an orange beak, not yellowish-green. Single factor dominant pieds can have either orange or the normal darker hued beak. Doublefactor dominant pieds will have an orange beak. If Fez is doublefactor dominant pied and male, the cere will probably remain pink, but can be blue. Hens will have brown ceres when in condition no matter which type of pied they are. The telling factor in differentiating between recessive pieds and doublefactor dominant pieds is the presence of an iris ring when they are older. Recessives will not show one.
June 15, 200619 yr Author I'm not sure about Fez's age - the people at the petstore weren't sure but didn't really seem to know much of anything. He/she has no black spots on the beak. The other birds that were with him were all fairly young. I know he was there for at least 2 weeks before I got him because we went to get bird food and we wanted to buy him and was still there when we went to get Buster a friend.
