I have a question, during the breeding process, is it normal for the female to pick at the vent area? I haven't seen them mate, but it is not to say that they didn't do it while I wasn't in the room or sometime last night.

I take it you mean her own vent area.... Good question I have never seen it in my birds but to be honest I haven't looked for it
