Keep The Bathroom Doors Closed

Well we had a close call last night. While Lucas was having his bath, I let a few of the budgies out for some time in the tree. Usually they either stay in the tree or fly back and forth to their cage. Not today though... Tweety decided to go for a little fly around the house. She went into the living room and back, but then I guess she decided she liked the freedom, so she took off again up the stairs and straight into the bathroom. I screamed to Lucas to grab her if she went in the water. By the time I got up the stairs she was already in the water. But luckily it was only for a second or two before Lucas had her. She coughed and sputtered, and bit me repeatedly while I got her back to her cage. I watched her closely for several hours and she was fine. So a warning to everyone, if your budgies are out and about make sure all water sources (toilets too) are covered. They fly fast and accidents can happen in just a few seconds.

oh my they are just like kids aren't they :), glad she is okay.

I always check in my bathroom too before free flying time, you never know.

Poor Bobby has fallen into the toilet once - and as I have a blue block in my cistern, I was worried that it would make him sick, I filled up the basin and rinsed him thoroughly (much to his biting disgust) then wrapped him up and kept a close eye on him, but he was fine, but if I hadn't been on the ball I could have lost him.... Sunny was also found on Friday perched on the toilet seat so the lesson has been learnt - I will NEVER leave the toilet door open again...

A week after I first got Bubbles she flew into the bathroom. I ran in after her and she was sitting on the toilet seat but when I went over to her she seemed to slip and fell in! She and I had quite a fright that day but luckily the experience hasn't put her off water though!!!

:) I had Happy fall into a filling bathtub a few years ago, toilet seat lid was down, WHAT was I thinking, obviously not thinking at all. :)

ahh yes,, my teil flew into the kitchen sink full of dishes once .

also be careful of other things in kitchen,, hot kettles just boiled.. ovens and hotplates that have been on,, even the fridge,

a friend of mine had her budgies out a few weeks ago while i was there, 1 budgie tweety went under the fridge and up in to the motor. i quickly turned fridge off and we then started to pull the back covering off where the motor is to remove tweety she was right up on motor out of reach,, she was caught un harmed and back to cage.. there is just so many things that could be potentially dangerous for free birds you really have to be carefull and watch them very closely

even when my tiel is out he will fly on to the ringnecks cage to say hello.. ringneck not to friendly towards sunnie unfortunatley he bites his foot. so ring neck is now covered when sunnie is out and vise versa.

My budgie Paris loves the bathroom, especially getting into the shower with me. He can't fly if he gets too waterlogged, but a blow-dry later and he's happy (and fluffy). The noise of the blowdryer doesn't bother him at all. I think the acoustics of the bathroom attract him, they certainly help my singing! Hes a 2002 bird - I heard they can live to 12. Anyone here got one that old?

I'll be more vigilant with him now though, thanks for the tip.

Gee, don't people keep the lids down on their toilets these days? :P:
