Posted June 7, 200619 yr Patches eggs have all hatched, four surviving babies in total ranging from 9 days old to 3 days old. The first, second, third and fifth hatchlings all have dark eyes but the fourth hatchling, now 4 days old, has visibly red eyes! Although they havent started to open as yet, you can see the colour under the skin and its totally different to babies siblings! Mum is a green/yellow pied and dad is a sky blue spangle.... what should I expect colour wise from this baby? Will try for photos if they are needed....
June 7, 200619 yr Green being dominant they will probably be green unless your green bird is split for blue. 50% spangles yellow pied dominant or recessive it makes a difference. If the spangle is split for recessive pied (a hidden gene) you can get those, but if it is a dominant pied you could get spangled pieds. Of course there are hidden genes from both sides so those could be surprises. I am not great with % but that is what you can get above
June 7, 200619 yr you know me, dense with the colors! are there more than lutino & albinos with red eyes?
June 7, 200619 yr Author Trying to remember what the parentage of the spangle is, I remember the breeder saying that one parent was pied, but forget what the other was... have to check my records. The parentage of the pied hen is unknown, and she is a dominant pied. Still wondering what colour the red eyed baby could possibly be though, I found when I was weighing them that its eyes are starting to open and they are definately red. Cant wait for it to feather up!!!!!
June 7, 200619 yr it could be an ino, fallow, lutino, recessive pied (both parents could be hiding that gene) but their eyes are black with a red plum to them and I believe a cinnamon chick is born with red eye but they change. That is what I remember in the red eye colorations. Here is the question is she a double factor dominant or single? You can tell by her patterns, you may want to post a picture of her and the father that would help. But again the above I typed still hold true . if that is her in your avator I believe that is a single factor (sidenote)
