Soory Me Again- Blues This Time!

Featured Replies

okay before coming onto this site I didn't really think to much about the finer points of my budgies colours

I have a skyblue male that I saved from a garage sale- for the first year I had him any time he flapped his wings all his flights fell out and bled, and also his tail, I had him inside with me but had to restrict his outcage time due to this problem (time and vitamin/mineral supplements seemed to have cured this but I will not breed him ever) he has blue colouring through his head and back feathers instead of white- its not showing up properly on the photos though

Also have a pied blue hen that has the blue all over her head too

Is this a normal occurence?

(sorry they're pretty scruffy photos of her)

Thanks for your help (with my stupid questions!!)

Your bird pictured is a skyblue opaline spangle. The blue through the wings and head is part of the opaline genes. Second bird is very interesting...seems to be pied spangle opaline as it has the band across the tummy and a pied spot on the back of its head ....someone would be able to tell you more on that one.

What an interesting looking budgie - 1st one. Those rogue black feathers are cool. I have never seen anything like that. I love spangles. They are both very pretty. And both do look like opalines.

Karen I believe you are right on both, the pied would be a dominant.

See how we have grown with our mutations of knowledge.

Gorgeous birds!
