Howdy From Texas!

Howdy, my name's Rachel and I live in Texas with my husband Emmett and our three parakeets Mooney, Dodo and Lloyd.

We bought Mooney in February, and then we added Dodo to our family in May and Llloyd a week after that. Working at a pet store, I always have the chance to choose parakeets that won't bite me, so mine don't bite. :nest:

There is a problem, though. A couple or three weeks ago Mooney started molting, and her behavior towards the other birds changed. She was always a bossy bird, but now she seems to enjoy pecking on the other birds' feet and making their lives a little miserable.

Do y'all think it's because she's molting and she's stressed? Any suggestions as to what to do? I might have to give her away if this continues, but I really don't want to.

Here are a couple pics of my babies:

Do y'all think the cage is a little small for three birds and might be part of the reason she's being aggressive?

hey welcome :nest:

Cute birds

but i must say that cage looks WAY to small for 3 birds. id say something atleast 24"X20" by atleast 18 high for 3

Hello and welcome to our forum. Nice to see you and your beautiful birds. My first thought is that your cage is way too small for these three birds. At a time when your birds are moulting or hormonal the lack of space would cause them to bicker and get crabby with each other. Would be nice to see them in a much bigger cage. :nest:

I absolutely love your little folding ladder set up though.

Welcome

I would say her behavior is due to molting but it can be hormonal too since it is summertime here in the states (always in Texas :nest:.

But the cage is WAY too small even for 2 birds. You can purchase a fanastic cage on e-bay I paid 109.00 for it and it is 30x60x24 (est), if you want the link to the buyer I will let you know. I had no issues, I have my 2 birds in and and they LOVE it.

Thank you very much for y'alls warm welcome :fear

I'm glad I decided to post here, 'cause I thought the cage was a little small for my babies, but not WAY too small. Tomorrow when I go to work I'll see what we have in the birds' department (I'm a dog bather) and I think I'll be able to get a big house for them pretty quick. They spend lots of hours outside the cage, when we're home, but I guess they'd still like a bigger "apartment"

Anyway, thanks again for the welcome and I'm looking forward to learning more here.

Very nice to have you on here. We would love to see more pikkies of your budgies...........

Budgiebird, I posted a picture of Mooney hangin' upside-down here:

Thanks birdluv, I think all budgies are really cute :o

What a cutie  I had a boy that hung upside down to sleep  He is now dad to two very young babies :fear I wonder if they will hang upside down too.
