Posted June 5, 200619 yr I think that Buster is looking a little lonely lately. I've been putting some pretty serious thought into getting a second budgie so he can have a friend. I was hoping that he and Amira would get on better (he loves everything, even my parent's 120 pound dog) but she was never socialized with other birds. I'm concerned about a few things: 1. Noise - I live in an apartment complex, so for those of you who have 2 budgies together; do they make more noise than a single budgie? 2. Buster is incredibly people friendly, will he be less so?
June 6, 200619 yr I can answer that since I just got Merlin 1. I notice they are noiser and they do more of the ack acking yes 2. He will continue to be social but he will share his time with you so he may not be as social as he was (depend on the bird too I believe). I can say that getting a 2nd one was the best thing I did for Pretty it has brought out his personality even more :nest:
June 6, 200619 yr Author Lovey is it a kind of noise that would be bothersome to neighbors? That's my biggest concern, we have another neighbor with a cockatoo that keeps getting them in trouble. I guess I'll just haunt the petstore until I make up my mind/find a budgie that I can't leave there.

I guess I'll just haunt the petstore until I make up my mind/find a budgie that I can't leave there. I found this on a website somewhere a little while ago. Noise Level: Cockatoos are LOUD. In fact, they are arguably the loudest of the parrots. Cockatoos WILL scream - don't think you can train them out of it. Cockatoos love screaming and will scream for the sheer joy of screaming, usually in periods once or twice a day (usually morning and evening). The smaller cockatoos are quieter simply due to reduced size, but even a Goffin's is loud. And a Mollucan?!?! Watch out! I also read somewhere else that a mollucan cockatoo holds the record for the loudest bird in the world. Its decibels were compared to a small aeroplane taking off!!! No wonder your neighbour has had complaints when they've got a cockatoo in an apartment block. I've got two budgies as well, and while they do 'ack ack' at each other, they are nothing like as loud as that. They live in my bedroom, as that's where I spend most of my time. My sister's room is directly above mine and she doesn't hear them very much at all.
June 6, 200619 yr Like Janette said NOTHING like 1 cockatoo, I don't think you would get in trouble . I mean they ack ack but if you need it quieted down you can cover them for that spell to quiet them you know . Even a tiel makes more noise then 2 budgies together. Now adding more then 2 I would say would get on the nosier side.

Hm sounds good That cockatoo is soooo loud that I can hear it from 3 doors down, but I can't complain because I'm sure my birds have their moments too. I think 90% of his/her day is spent making a noise that sounds like a referee whistle. I suppose I could just move them from the living room to a bedroom if the noise becomes an issue. I feel like Buster would benefit from having a friend. I even got the boyfriend okay
