I thought I would share this tale with you and who knows it might help someone!

One pair of my budgies have laid eggs for the last two years but they have never been fertile and are very small as the female has difficulty in laying.

In April this year one of my young from last year laid 5 eggs. The other female was already sitting on three eggs. So I thought I would give her a chance to raise some young and stop her laying!

I swapped two of the fertile eggs for the infertile ones!

I figured being a first year mum she might not cope with 5 chicks and as I said this would stop the other from laying!

Well it worked infertile Mum has successfully raised her sarogate chicks and so has the other mother all in the same aviary without being seperated!

I am planning on giving her more fertile eggs because fertile mum is already laying eggs again!

 

Now I am not saying that this will work every time and I am not advising this is a good thing to do - I just thought I would share this little story because you never know!
