Posted June 1, 200619 yr Hi all. I don't post on here very often due to other commitments but regularly keep up with posts. I am moving home in the next 2-3 weeks and it will mean a 6 hour journey by train to transport biggles to his new home. I have purchased a carrier for him and a cover which there is a picture of here - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1 I have been getting biggles used to it by keeping it by his cage all the time and he is even going in and playing in it. But I am so worried that the noise when we are travelling is going to frighten him so much. There is no chance of driving to our new home as none of us drive so the train is the only option. I have purchased food and water dishes for the carrier so he doesn't go hungry and will put some of his favourite toys in with him. Can anyone advise if my baby will be okay during the journey?
June 1, 200619 yr I think he'll be okay, you may even find he enjoys travelling! You can always take a blanket to cover the carrier to keep him calm if he seems stressed.
June 1, 200619 yr He should be fine. A lot of budgies actually seem to quite like travelling. My Jimmi has been on a couple of 8 hour car rides and she sang and tweeted all the way. Just keep the cage covered and he should be fine. You said about putting some of his favourite toys in with him; bear in mind that you don't want to put toys in that'll swing around too much when the train's moving. They might hit Biggles and hurt him. Maybe give him something attached to his perch or a floor toy. My birds spend most of the time on the floor in their carry cage anyway (it's exactly the same as yours), I guess they feel a bit more stable that way.
June 1, 200619 yr I recently took Bobby with me on a camping trip, and we drove home via the Great Ocean Rd, which is a very long twisty windy rd. It took 8 hours to get home, and Bobby sat in the back seat in his travel cage chatting away to himself, sleeping, tweeting and playing. He ate and seemed to really be enjoying himself. I had one perch in the cage and some face washers on the bottom so if he fell it was a soft landing. He had seed and water in one of those water bottles that you clip to the outside of the cage. He also had a couple of small toys secured and he was fine. Good luck with your move
June 1, 200619 yr He will be fine, Merlin was purchased 6 hours away from us and he was perfectly okay. I used a small cage 15"x15"x15" (estimate size) it is bigger then a travel, I put in a snuggle hut, food, no perches, a towel on the bottom and a little bit of water. We put him on the front seat and used the seat belt around the cage and buckled him in. He was fine .
June 1, 200619 yr Thank you all so much for your advice! I had already planned to attach some toys that would not move about but any advice has been much appreciated. I feel much happier now that you have shared your experiences. Biggles will so love his new home as it is by the seaside so plenty of fresh air for him. Thanks again
