Moulting?

Featured Replies

Hey guys. Rejy's started moulting, at least I think it's moulting. She's loosing feathers and as its getting rather chilly up here shes getting very cold without all her feathers. We've started bringing her inside when it gets dark.

What i found odd is that shes moulting at the start of winter?

Are they sposed to do that?

Thanks

Emma

When you say 'without all her feathers', do you mean she has bald patches? Or is she just shedding feathers?

Is there any particular reason why she can't stay inside all of the time?

My parents would have an absolute fit if animals were insde the house. They let me have the entire verandah for my various cages, dog beds etc but if anything came inside well, i think the animals would be gone before I could say sorry. They are allowed in for short times like over night but tahts all.

She dosn't have bald patches or really any disecrnible patch of missing feathers, theres just bright blue feathers everywhere.

So it's just a normal moult? just seemed so odd for her to moult at the beginning of winter.

once we move her to her new bigger cage (about 8 times the size of her old one), we'll get her one of the bird bunks for winter times but theres just no room in her current cage for one.

they usually molt 2x a year and odd as it is they can do it whenever their body thinks it is ready, being that it is colder it will probably be a shorter molt. How do you know she is cold? Is she shaking because if you bring her into a warmer climate her molt may take longer. But it is up to the individual bird for sure.

She's shivering and isnt being as noisy as usual.

keep an eye on her she could be sick instead.
