What Colour Are We?

Hey,

I was hoping some experts here could tell me the colours of these two. Sorry, the images have slightly bigger than they should be (although the actual file size of them is quite small), so I've posted them as links.

Thanks for any help!

first one looks like an opaline dominant pied cobalt (I think opaline)

second one is a spangle cobalt pied

Yep, agree. first one is an opaline, the second is a spangle. Not sure about the blue part. I'd say both Cobalt from the pics, but it could be different in real time. Cheers

What pretty birds! How old is the first? Does she have an iris ring? If not she might be a recessive.

Hey,

Thanks for all the replies!

Here's another picture...

Shawna, I've had her at least 8 months and her cere was brown and crusty-like at that stage. She does not have an iris ring as far as I can tell. I thought she was over 12 months old, but there's still lots of lines on her head, which I thought dissappeared at this age? Perhaps the photo I posted can help.

I have been told in the past that the spangled one is cinnemon, but as far as I can see, the markings look grey not brown. Any input there?

Thankyou for your insights!

she is a dominant, her blue is up by her neck and the wing patterns are more uniformed then the recessives (a tip Nerwen had told me to see). Gorgeous bird

Sorry Lovey, I think I'll have to disagree with the dominant part after reading the fact that she's had it for at least 8 months and it still doesn't have the iris ring to me means that it is a recessive. In the first instant that I saw both of them, I had thought that they are both recessive.

Oh Joanne, apparently in some recessive pied, they keep the barring on the head?!?! Not 100% sure on that. When I visited bugiebird, I noticed on one of her daddy budgie (Romeo) had barring on his heads, and he's way way pass the stage of first molt!!

If you want I can send the picture to Nerwen on the other forum for feedback. There is also another member on that forum very knowledgeable about budgie mutations. I would like to know too. I thought all budgies without iris rings were recessives.

Ooooh, she's quite contraversial!

Shawna, it would be brilliant if you could send the pics! Thankyou!

Cheers

Joanne

PS. A little confused, I've been away for awhile, but wasn't Nerwen a moderator here? Or are we talking about different people?

Some recessives look almost like a dominant due to their wing patterns, but the recessives keep the barring pattern on thier heads.

Well here is the word from Nerwen!

"Aww I feel special that your asking me I think she might be a dutch dominant pied, they have markings like a recessive but as lovely said with spots around the neck too. I've heard that they don't get rings and then others that they do.

It's hard to tell sometimes but that's what I think she is."

Thanks for that Budgiebird and Shawna, I guess I'll be off to google to find out what exactly a dutch dominant pied is! :dbb1:

Thankyou everyone!

Joanne
