Adding A Companion Bird - Problems!

Hello everyone - I am brand new to this forum, I actually registered specifically to find help for this....I live in a little bitty condo, and for the past year have owned a single green budgie (Cooper) who is a female.

I have owned budgies all my life, and she is the most antisocial budgie I have owned...hates to come out of her cage and is very introverted and quiet.

I have had a rough work schedule lately and hated the thought of her being alone all day, so I decided I'd get a second budgie. Went to the pet store and brought home an adorable little blue Budg I named Parker - I believe it's a girl, but, of course, I'm not 100% certain yet - and Cooper is ANGRY!! She keeps going after poor Parker, who has been cornered in one section of the cage.

Will this subside?? I don't have much room in my place to keep them in separate cages....but do I need to be prepared for this? I have never had two budgies at once. Please, advice is pleaded for! I feel terrible for Parker, and I'm worried about leaving my place for fear Cooper will hurt him/her. :ausb:

Hi there and welcome to the forum. I will try and help with some advice, and others may come along and add to my views. Firstly, it is essential that new birds be quarantined for at least a month in a separate environment for the health and safety of both birds. Introduced disease can result in death or illness of both your birds. Secondly your first bird has an invader in its cage from her standpoint. A slower introduction from an adjoining cage after quarantine would be best and under supervision, until you are sure that they are getting along. There are many on this forum who have just been through the introduction stage with their birds and will be able to help you further. Cheers Karen :ausb:
