Posted May 27, 200619 yr Well, please please please tell me this little wonderful beautiful girl that I just brought home is a spangle. This makes an even dozen for me and I'm not going to buy any more!!!! Her markings were obviously different from the others. I had her clipped - her flight feathers really showed the tracing better than the wing feathers. I think she is also a mish mash of other things like pied (not sure if dominant or recessive ) and probably opaline. But would love to hear from you experts. I'm hoping that if she is a spangle that I will be able to mate her with one of my yellowface males to produce my yellowface spangle. (Don't worry - not any time soon). Oh yeah, name suggestions would be appreciated too. Edited May 29, 200619 yr by Shawna
May 27, 200619 yr Shes GORGEOUS SHAWNA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think were related, for the fact that, sometimes i stare at birds in stores that i think are spangled, but they are just opaline pied.... Im honestly not sure!?!?!?!?!? Shes older than 6 months though, from cere, and barring... http://www.geocities.com/lmb345/budgbab2.JPG Spangles http://freespace.virgin.net/dr.joinery/images/Mauve_NC1.jpg normal http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Bluffs/...ickenhawk3a.jpg Opaline So, i dont know Shawna!!!!! Im going to have to say no, shes a greywing opaline, skyblue, recessive pied hen.... My opaline pied male looks identical to her, but mines a yellow pied. My male also has the frosting on the wing tips, but thats opaline pied i think, good try though! She still is GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!! Also, spangles *usually* dont have cheeck markings, other than a blue fleck, and she has blue and black... that rule applies to all the ones i have, and the ones ive seen, i could be wrong though :ausb: What about Belle, Maggie, Meggie, Claire, Hannah, Chloe, Zoe, Cleo, Patches, Pinto, Pal, Lokie, Anex, Skye, Cloud, Angel, Heaven, Misty, Jazzie/Jazzy, Aero, Mindy, Pepper, Ciara, Tango, Mango, Ariel, Simone, Poppy, Penny, Lucy, Lucky, Omiego, Annie, Zelda, or Chipper??? I LOVE the names Jazzy, Chloe, Cleo, Zoe, Patches, and Angel the most for her! Kirby Edited May 27, 200619 yr by Kirby
May 27, 200619 yr awww she's beautiful Shawna .. but don't ask me what type she is I have no clue about all that stuff :ausb:
May 27, 200619 yr I am going with Kirby she looks like an opaline pied with a greywing, I wish Nerwen could jump on. Spangles are so defined it looks like someone traced their wings on like Bea's birds.
May 28, 200619 yr Author :ausb: Oh man. I really thought I had one. I was so convinced when I saw her thinking that the white inside the feather meant spangle. I didn't realize it had to be a pencil line. Oh well, she still darling and I'm sure she'll make beautiful babies with either Tazzy or Romeo someday!!!! I think it is time to convert my spare bedroom into the bird room!!!!
May 28, 200619 yr Shawna go to this post and click on the second picture http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....topic=10259&hl= that is a spangle pied, you can see how the wings look traced. That is how I tell if they don't look like someone traced their wings on then they are not a spangle to me :bluebudgie:
May 28, 200619 yr That my dear Shawna, in my (not so knowledgable) mind is a recessive pied spangle!!! Although it looks like some used a very blunt or fat pencil to trace her feathers!! Soooo thick the black marking on the tip of the feather!! Then again, looking at the second picture a little bit closer it looks like it's a greywing of some sort... hmmmmmm Any chance of a photo of a full back with both wings showing so I can see better please??
May 28, 200619 yr Author Well here are a few more shots of her. I did post her pics on another forum and there was mixed reaction there too, but someone sent her pics to a spangle breeder who said she was spangle but was quite grey. So???? Trying to win her over with millet. Man can she bite!!!! Some shots of the back of her wings. She really is pretty.
May 28, 200619 yr she looks spangled there but a poorly marked one as they say? Not sure. PM if you want Nerwen's e-mail and you can e-mail her directly the pics if you want her opinion. Edited May 28, 200619 yr by lovey
May 28, 200619 yr I say she's a spangle aswell, look at the edges of her wings and toward the center of her back. to me she looks, dominant pied greywing opaline spangle.
May 28, 200619 yr Author then doesn't her name have to be Juliet? I'm tossing around the name Bella right now. I can't use Juliet because I already have a Jewel who was bought at the same time as Romeo.
May 28, 200619 yr that is what I was thinking your last response Dingo too but then you can almost say spangle too when you look.
May 28, 200619 yr Author I say she's a spangle aswell, look at the edges of her wings and toward the center of her back. to me she looks, dominant pied greywing opaline spangle. Can dominant pieds have bright orange beaks? Hers is orange and of my 11 other birds the only ones with orange beaks are my recessives. She is at least 6 months old (I am assuming) and doesn't have an iris ring.
May 28, 200619 yr here's my opinion... Sky blue Recessive pied greywings opaline spangle...... sheesh, that's a really really long one there...(Laughing out loud) Edit... oh just have a second look at the pics... do I see yellow in the last picture on the head? or is that just stain?!?!?! if it's yellow, you can add Yellowface one to that name above!! (Laughing out loud) Oh and she's a very pretty one. Edited May 28, 200619 yr by Cheeta
May 28, 200619 yr Yes, i now think she is spangled! Looks like it anyways! I like names Belle, Jazzy, and Dpri, theyd be cute (Laughing out loud) Kirby
May 28, 200619 yr Author Edit... oh just have a second look at the pics... do I see yellow in the last picture on the head? or is that just stain?!?!?! if it's yellow, you can add Yellowface one to that name above!! (Laughing out loud)Oh and she's a very pretty one. No yellow. She just needs a bath I'll give her a few days though. She's doing a lot of preening as I type so she may be able to take care of it herself.
May 29, 200619 yr Oh hehe.. I get those temporary 'yellowface' a lot too with my lot!! (Laughing out loud)
