Posted May 25, 200619 yr Yes yes I know you are disappointed in me I didn't get download the pics yet but I will. It started off with Pretty bobbing at Merlin and Merlin looking at him like what the ***. Then Pretty decided that Merlin would be something nice to stand on (you get my point). Merlin said in an angy dolphin GET OFF man I am a BOY : Merlin proceeds to take over the feeding bowl and Pretty proceeds to pick on his head and Merlin angry dolphins again I AM EATING. Hmmmm But Merlin follows Pretty around but doesn't like the abuse. So what do you guy think normal sidenote: pictures coming soon
May 26, 200619 yr That's great news that Pretty likes Merlin already and hasn't taken the "I was here first and I don't like you approach". Merlin was probably anxious in unfamiliar territory.
May 26, 200619 yr All sounds pretty normal to me, except for pretty thinking Merlin's a girl ...but to some budgies that's normal too. Off to a good start.....look forward to hearing more
May 26, 200619 yr Author here is how the rest of the day went Merlin decided that EVERYTHING Pretty owned was simply his especially his favorite sitting spot on the BIG swing I made that they could share. No no...Merlin sat in the middle of it and everytime Pretty tried to get on it Merlin did the angry dophlin noise, something with the other swing too. But Pretty is not innocent you should see the look in his eye like who me when he pecks Merlin. The other thing they were doing was Pretty was on the top branch and Merlin on the bottom on right underneath and Pretty was feeding Merlin. All in all I won't keep them in the same cage while I am gone and sleeping together because the swing is Pretty's spot and until Merlin doesn't do the dophlin noise every 10 mins I will feel more comfortable. So when I am home I will let them be in the cage together and out I am going to work on training with them on my fingers together. . Edited May 26, 200619 yr by lovey
May 26, 200619 yr Aww sounds like they are getting on just like house on fire!! That Merlin do not only look like my Goofy, but he acts like him too!! I mean the part where he tries to take over everything.. Goofy has taken over the cage.. what he wants, he gets... Lemon and Hope back off of him... hehehe.. I'm sure Merlin will be a lot more civilise to Pretty than Goofy is to his cage mates!! (Laughing out loud)
May 26, 200619 yr Author I hope so and on top of it he has the whole English Budgie look and he is super calm about everything and not as flighty as Pretty. So Pretty is flying all over the cage and Merlin is swinging on his swing it is a comical. But everytime I get the camera out they stop

May 26, 200619 yr Author So today I gave them veggies, Pretty can teach Merlin to eat them. Pretty decides to take a flying leap onto Merlin's back : What a no no that is (Laughing out loud)...Merlin says I AM A BOY . I will tell you more as I watch them play and interact today as I am home all day. Right now they are on top of the old cage.

May 27, 200619 yr Author Merlin was eating and picking at veggies before he did better with Pretty, not a green face like Pretty though. Bea, I am not sure if it is a pounce or a bounce :ausb:, but Pretty has those eyes that are so dang inocennt that they make you crack up. It is the what mom who mean who did that.... They were together all day yesterday the angry dolphin from poor Merlin was about every 20 mins now, see it is getting better. He don't take no you know what from Pretty. When he is on the food bowl he doesn't even look anymore he just angry dolphins. The cutest thing is when they preen they do it at the same time, they have not yet preened each other yet but are attempting the feeding thing. So that is it so far . Now my husband insisted if I got Merlin Pretty would ignore me but not true. He still runs to the side to listen to me talk to him because I am still working on Hello Merlin (I only say that when they are both on my fingers), and on just plain hello. He loves to cock his head and listen and get real close to my lips with his ear. Merlin is still the same, he is not super tamed and he follows Pretty but I can pick him up whenever, give him kisses and I spend alone time with him first thing in the AM before Pretty is uncovered and in the PM (out of his cage), so I can continue bonding with him too.
May 27, 200619 yr Author Yes I was enjoying them this afternoon. Pretty was wacking his ball around hitting Merlin in the head while Merlin was angery muttering at him - silly bird. Pretty keeps swooping my head - don't know why, I think he is showing off to Merlin that he can fly :ausb:.

But Pretty gets all "ornery" and the games begin Just like dogs n cats they can get "food possessive" at times. My dog is that way. The cat just has to look sideways at a bone at he gets growled at. With the food bowl, can you try one of the longer and wider food troughs instead for awhile. Then they can both eat out of it without crowding each other. Watching each other eat from one end of it to the other would be a good start to sharing. Gets them used to sharing better. The swooping is both part of the excitement AND showing off. Pretty is trying to show Merlin he is better than him. It's all very interesting when the realtionships mingle. Makes for fun times..... :ausb: Edited May 28, 200619 yr by budgiebird
