Posted May 23, 200619 yr Has anyone ever had the dad sit on the eggs? We have egg #3 today, and everytime i check on stumpy she is off to the side of them. But sylvester is constanty in the box with her. Do you think he could be sitting on them? I havent seen where he goes, but with the 2 of them in there, i hope someone is sitting on them!
May 23, 200619 yr In my aviary of nearly 100 birds I have at least five Dads that sit on eggs with the mother or take turns. Maybe they are just in touch with thier feminine side
May 23, 200619 yr (Laughing out loud), feminine side! i just wish stumpy would get on them, because dad isnt on them enough to keep them warm. the first egg was hatched last wed!
May 23, 200619 yr lol, feminine side!i just wish stumpy would get on them, because dad isnt on them enough to keep them warm. the first egg was hatched last wed! He is probably trying to show her what to do. I have males that show the females where the nest is and get in and out till she gets the idea....especially when the females are a bit "dense" Some Mums just don't "get it" and I lost a newborn baby that way. I didn't know it had been born or I could have put it under another bird. :ausb:
May 23, 200619 yr A lot of my dads just sit in the nestbox with the hen -not necessarily to sit on the eggs but to feed her etc. None of them have sat on the eggs.
