May 21, 200618 yr Hm....i think our birds have unique breeding behaviours, becuase mine use to do the same! In my case, my older male was trying to breed my youngest female without a nesting box. She would go in the 'ready to mate' stance at only 6 months old. When he attempted to mount, she hacked at him. She was/is the biggest tease to all my males! HAHAH! So, how old are the birds, and have they breed before? Kirby
May 21, 200618 yr Author my female is about a year old and my male is about 6 months now. and no they havent breed before Edited May 21, 200618 yr by shant
May 21, 200618 yr 6 months is WAY too young to be breeding, all breeding books and just regular books say wait until they are at least 15 months and older. First of all he is just a baby himself, and they are not mentally ready to take care of a family. Do not let him breed for the sake of the bird and the family he could produce. When birds are breed to young the clutches usually fail because the parents are not mentally ready.
May 21, 200618 yr 12 months to breed 6 months is to young but to answer your first question is the hen in breeding condition
May 21, 200618 yr I remember your case! Your the one with the baby blue male with bars on forehead still right? And the black cage, with nest box! YEs, take the box out fore SUREE! Kirby
May 22, 200618 yr Male budgies are sexually mature at around 8 weeks old, they are not physically mature until at least 15-18 months old. If he does manage to mate the hen & she has eggs, do not allow him to raise any babies as he will just be too daft. My Toy Boy was 6 months old when Mrs Robinson coaxed him to mate her - I have not left any babies for him to raise as he is too immature.
