Posted May 14, 200619 yr A few weeks ago I posted a topic about my poor little newly hatched chick that wasnt being fed. I had managed to keep it alive for its first few days of life until the parents got the hang of what to do. I put him back with them and up until now they were thriving. When I went out this morning to check on all of them, I could hear a terrible noise coming from their next box. When I opened it up the mother was attacking him and his two siblings. She has stopped feeding them again. I am ashamed to say I didnt check them yesterday as I was at work and didnt get home until dark - as things had been fine up until now! So now they are with me in a nice warm brooder and being hand fed and will remain with me until fully weaned! I cant understand why the parents do this, it is so cruel!
May 14, 200619 yr Oh those poor little babies. You have done so much for these little ones, don't be upset about not checking them yesterday. Did the mum hurt them too much? If you look on the bright side, at least you will have some super tame chicks!
May 15, 200619 yr Author They are only 2 weeks old. I dont know just how long they havent been fed but they are quite thin. I am feeding them every couple of hours so they should pull through okay. Will they do the same thing with the next clutch??
May 15, 200619 yr Author Here are some photoes of the poor little things! http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/jen.../budgies002.jpg http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/jenene283/bidgoes.jpg Edited May 15, 200619 yr by daz
May 15, 200619 yr Well you have between 14 to 20 days of feeding before they should be able to feed themselves. :ausb: They look healthy. Are you colony breeding or closed breeding?
May 15, 200619 yr Author I breed them all in their own seperate breeding cages. I dont mind handrearing them, they are fairly easy to look after at this age. I'm just glad I found them in time! :ausb:
May 15, 200619 yr ohh poor little mites! its so weird the way a mom can change practically overnite! so glad you saved them, and hope they dont have any feather damage. good luck foster mum! (Laughing out loud)

May 21, 200619 yr hi im a new joiner to this site and i saw two of my budgies mating on wensday how long should it take before the first egg is laid? Thanks for any info! Hoping for cute little budgies Welcome make sure when you ask questions you start a new topic for your own questions, I noticed you have asked questions in other posts too. It helps you get the answer you want and keeps the other poster's topic from going astray . Yes how are the babies doing??? :rip:
May 21, 200619 yr Author They are going very well thanks. Will try and post some more pictures this week. They are getting their proper feathers now. I've had to teach my partner how to feed them while I'm at work!! Keep watching for the photoes......
