Posted May 13, 200619 yr So who want to take a jab at this little guy... Is s/he is a male or female? and also is s/he a dominant or recessive pied?!?! Here are some pics... okay keeping in mind that Karen (budgiebird) says that both the parents are recessive pied (Romeo and Juliet), but the colouring seems to stump some people?? So with that factor in mind, what's your guesses on this little one? Here's a front view... Turning to the left.... Then to the right.... Then right around the back for the wing markings.... Now for a close up of the face.... (please note that the cere is now alot more purplish pink.....) okay anyone?!?!?!?! Oh i'm still thinking Chase for the name.. For some reason, I just can't get the name Skate around my brain!! I always think Chase when I see him... hehe..
May 13, 200619 yr I'm no expert but my initial reaction is female dominant pied. Is she grey or mauve or cobolt? I'm having a hard time telling with my monitor. Very beautiful!!!!
May 13, 200619 yr Female. I would say dominant pied, but you can't always tell by looking. If both parents are recessive, the baby should be recessive. I wonder if every chick from this pair has been a recessive pied? She just looks like a dominant pied. If she's grey, call her Smudge.
May 13, 200619 yr Female..... i think sometimes* such as now, but i thought before male And definatly a recessive pied. Notice the wings. Dominant pieds' markings dont cover the whole wing! All the recessive pieds ive seen, imcluding the 9 i have owned, all look like that, whereas no dominant pieds look like that. Look at budgiebirds Ciara and Max. Max is dominant pied, Ciara is recessive. This baby looks identical to Ciara, doesnt she Budgiebird? Also, Karen also bring up the most obvious one, both parents are recessive pieds! If you breed two recessives, babies are 100% recessive! Thats what happend to my pairs, this little guys brothers and sisters are all recessives, and that is common sense about all other recessive x recessive pairings WOW, i sounded pro there! (Laughing out loud) Kinda, (Laughing out loud) Did it help Cheeta? Kirby

Kirby Dominant pieds' markings usually DO cover the whole wing...was that a typo?
May 13, 200619 yr I think SHe might be a mauve. Just looking at the colour on her rump. Wish there was nor colour to the cheek patches to see. She does look a bit like a dutch dominant pied but I still think she is recessive. Call her Chase Cheeta I love it
May 14, 200619 yr I have a budgie called Chase too. Female. I would say dominant pied, but you can't always tell by looking. If both parents are recessive, the baby should be recessive. I wonder if every chick from this pair has been a recessive pied? She just looks like a dominant pied. If she's grey, call her Smudge. :hap: Every chick from this pair thus far has been recessive pied.
May 14, 200619 yr ...my 2 cents Mauve Recessive Pied Hen Do you have a photo of the parents. Edited May 14, 200619 yr by daz
May 14, 200619 yr did you colony breed with the pair? Do you think someone could have been messing around (example Bubbles), and she could have a different mom or dad? Just a question. She could be a double factor pied I say that because everything I have read has said if they have the coloration into the neck area it could indicat double factor pied which looks recessive. Looks female.
May 14, 200619 yr ...my 2 cents Mauve Recessive Pied Hen Do you have a photo of the parents. MOTHER FATHER did you colony breed with the pair? She could be a double factor pied I say that because everything I have read has said if they have the coloration into the neck area it could indicat double factor pied which looks recessive. May 14, 200619 yr Both are single factor dark factor. Mum is a colbalt on blue and Dad is a cobalt on green. 2 single factor dark factors will give 25% double factor dark factor (Olive and Mauve) 50% single factor dark factor (colbalt and dark green) and 25% no factor Dark factor (Sky blue and light green)
May 14, 200619 yr Then Daz could have just answered your question " 25% double factor dark factor" :hap: = Mauve
May 14, 200619 yr Author holy moly... dang there goes all my genetics lesson down the drain!!! I thought mauve coloured babies have blue cheek patch doesn't it??
May 15, 200619 yr well I don't know much about check patches but grey is dominant color so for one of the babies to be grey one of the parents have to be grey and neither one is.
May 15, 200619 yr holy moly... dang there goes all my genetics lesson down the drain!!! I thought mauve coloured babies have blue cheek patch doesn't it?? I think Mauve has violet check patches.
May 15, 200619 yr Author Oh, violet cheek patch.. so what about Skate/Chase's cheek patch? It isn't violet is it?!?! It's looks like light grey to me when I look at him??
May 15, 200619 yr Oh, violet cheek patch.. so what about Skate/Chase's cheek patch? It isn't violet is it?!?! It's looks like light grey to me when I look at him?? Yes it looks light grey to me too. This is where genetics gets fun...... Dark Eyed Clear Note the colour of the check patch. this is dad. Dark Eyed Clear Note the colur of the cheek patch. This is mum. Dark Eyed Clear Note the colur of the cheek patch. This is baby...... By the way the baby is to the current Australian Standard and Won Best DEC in the February show. Mum and Dad is penalised due to incorrect Cheek patches.... Colour of cheek patchas, Tail Quils and Tail Feathers will help with Identification but it is not always right... As you can see.
May 15, 200619 yr Author Oh geeze... fun fun fun... so it's safe to say that this little guy is a mauve than?? Not grey??
May 15, 200619 yr I would say yes it would be safe to say mauve. Unless someone can say otherwise how the gray mutation would have appeared :ausb:.
May 15, 200619 yr We had one this colouring in the last clutch from this pair and two this same colouring in this clutch.
