Hi All,

 

I just wanted to share with you all...seeing as how you've been with me every step of the way with Trixie (formerly known as Monte!)....after her biting episode yesterday, she's turned into such a nice bird!!!

 

We bought her home on Thursday night, (so she's totally freaked out...), then we had to catch her & get her wings clipped Friday (so she's REALLY freaked out then!)...& then she bit me HARD til I almost cried!! Today my daughter has been at me & at me to let me put her hand in the cage to start 'taming' her. So we got some millet grass, sat it on Maddy's hand (my daughter), & Trixie walked across her hand! I didn't see it, but Maddy said to me that she had done it, but Maddy got scared & pulled her hand away as she'd seen the bite Trixie had given me yesterday.

 

So I told Maddy that if she was going to be doing that, she wasn't going to be able to tame Trixie. Trixie will associate the hand with getting a fright - because she keeps jerking her hand away.

 

So I sat & had a go....put the millet grass on my hand & she flew down right next to my hand. She didn't look scared at all. Then she touched my palm with her beak...Maddy thought Trixie was going to bite, but she didn't even attempt it. Then she took a nibble at the millet grass...& walked across my hand!!! I honestly didn't think she'd come anywhere near a hand after her experience with us in the last 2 days!

 

But there ya go!! I really have a good feeling about Trixie - biting & all! She must have short term memory loss or something.....but what ever it is....I'm thrilled that she's showing us a little trust. What a gorgeous bird!!!

Well done! That sounds like you're heading on the right track for a lovely tame budgie. I wouldn't pay too much attention to her biting episode. After all, if you were being handled by a giant creature that you didn't know, in a strange place, with strange sights and sounds, you'd probably bite them too! :fear You just need to keep on building up trust between you. From the sounds of it, she's a brave little girl, so good for you, and keep working at it! :hap:

excellent keep it up :hap:, it is amazing how these little ones can control you. I know Pretty will pretend to nip the kids when they try to get him to step up and they jerk back all the time he has total control of my 2 kids but not I :fear
