Molting

Does anyone know how many times a budgie molts during a year? I have two parakeets who are in good health and happy but seem to lose feathers quite often.

I think budgies kept indoors can moult almost non-stop or very frequently because the temperature is pretty stable.

as in feathers what do you mean? The little tiny fluffy feathers they will lose all the time, the bigger feathers like flights and tails 2x a year or as Bea said depends on the weather. When they are in a true molt you can see pin feathers on their heads, go to www.budgietalk.com and Terri has some pictures of molting budgies on her site.

Thanks for replying. They are kept inside so that may be why.

The feathers are the little fluffy ones. They seemed to lose their larger feathers in the spring and in the fall. Thanks--I will take a look at the pictures.

the little ones are the normal ones all the time, I am always sweeping them up and your right the bigger ones when they loose those that is a "real" molt :(.
