Posted May 11, 200619 yr Just wondering if someone could help me to put a descriptive colour-name to my hen! I dont hae a picture of her because my camera is playing up so I will describe her as best I can, if you have any questions about her please ask! Okay, she is very similar in colour to the bird in my avator <---- she looks a dirty yellow in some lights, but in direct sunlight she is a beautiful light lime colour. * She has blue/almost mauve cheek patches * She has brown markings instead of black. * She does not have a red eye. * I am almost certain she is opaline, but her body colour is soooo light it is hard to tell. She does have the v on her back like an opaline, and her head barring isnt as strong as normal. * She doesnt have distinct cheek spots like my other opalines, they are more like splotches that are the size of an entire feather. So, how would I best describe her colouring? I have said before that she is an olive dilute but I'm not sure that is right.... I am thinking grey-green dilute???? HHHHHHHHHEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!
May 11, 200619 yr Cinnamon opaline green. Not dilute, I don't think....it's the cinnamon gene that washes out the colour strength. Photos ?
May 11, 200619 yr Author Thanks Karen and Bea, I will try for photos but I am having problems with the camera and connection to the computer.
June 4, 200619 yr Author Iwas finally able to upload a foto of Olive, any ideas on colour? She is the budgie in the foreground Edited June 4, 200619 yr by Patches
June 4, 200619 yr She looks like a Cinnamon Green Clearbody to me when I was looking through different pictures (I am going to e-mail Nerwen and see what she thinks since she is good on mutations)
June 4, 200619 yr Author Thanks lovey, it will be great to see what a few people think of her colour! She would have to be one of my favourite birds, and I have her in a breeding cage with my other favourite - a violet/cobalt opaline cock- and although none of their eggs have hatched yet I am sure that one will hatch any day now (I can hear the chick inside the egg)
June 5, 200619 yr This is what Nerwen said: she looks like a cinnamon clearbody. Possibly an opaline as well.
June 5, 200619 yr Author (Laughing out loud)! That puts a whole new twist on it, I always thought dilute or cinnamon but never considered a clearbody! And Yes, I think she definately is opaline, she has the V, different head markings to normal but its hard to distinguish the body colour from the yellow on her wings. One of her eggs hatched yesterday, so I am very interested to see what it results in... although I will probably just get a green opaline, right? (Dad is a violet cobalt opaline)
