Hi Phoebes, A slime happens when the water isn't changed regularly. Is this the slime your talking about? Water starts losing nutrients, so for that reason it is a good idea to change it everyday also.

Hi Budgie_Mad, I tried to 'Like This' and got this message. "You have reached your quota of positive votes for the day." I have no idea what this means. Do you? I am going to the link you mentioned. Thanks.
  3. Alright, I've answered number 4 myself - Yes, the Australian clearwing blue series budgie is meant to have all white tail which is a surprise to me so please tell me if I am wrong or right! The green series clearwing budgie is meant to have a yellow tail right?!
  4. Also, 4. Can clearwing primary tail feathers ever be white? 5. What mutations have white primary tail feathers ? 6. Are pieds with all white wings clearwings? Thanks in advance for answering my questions.

I just wanted to thank you for the photos Budgie_Mad. When you mentioned you bred a violet to a cream - ino I was very curious how the young turned out.
  6. Thanks for your reply robyn. I will look further under 'mutations' for the answers to my questions. Can I post on an old topic? I can't find a photo anywhere on the internet including BBC of a opaline clearwing without spangle. I would like to buy one to go with my Rainbow budgie, but due to some characteristics changing other characteristics(genetics) , I understand that an opaline clearwing may not necessarily have all the opaline characteristics and all the clearwing characteristics when placed together. I am after what changes to look out for.
  7. Violet is pretty and so are yours, but I always have on board in my brain any person thinking about buying a budgie reading this, so I have to say, the most important thing in buying a budgie as a pet is it's personality not colour. My daughter bought her budgie Sunshine on colour. When Sunshine is anywhere in our house other than her room, she is great and even cuddles up to my daughter at night when my daughter is watching TV sometimes, but in her room, Sunshine gives her the nastiest of bites (makes her bleed sometimes) before stepping onto my daughter's finger (and anyone else's) every time. Sunshine was very very cheeky to start off with especially to Sunshine's sister's annoyance when we fist met her, but she was tame. My daughter still loves her like a doting mum. Sunshine simply thinks she is the boss in my daughter's room. Sunshine likes having another Budgie's company in the room now and Angel seems the perfect match. Angel and Sunshine love taking turns chasing each other around the room. We did have to get Sunshine used to Angel at first and keep them separated for a couple of weeks because Sunshine wasn't nice to him at first at all. To solve the biting problem, my daughter tried to use a glove in her room but then Sunshine didn't want anything to do with her at all. We decided on another tacktic. My daughter had to get tougher and act like a budgie that has had enough. Now before my daughter puts her finger up to Sunshine in her room, she tries to tap Sunshine's beak a little to let her know she is in control. My daughter has been doing this for a couple of days now and Sunshine seems to be getting the idea - okay, your the boss, not me! But I have to say this; we would never ever do this to a budgie that was not 100% unafraid of people, repeat, never! I have to say 2 more things, one, my daughter will only be doing this beak tapping until the biting of her finger in her room completely stops and two, nibbling is not biting - even hard nibbling.
  8. Thank you so much. You have made my son very happy since he can keep Beautiful English Albert now.
  9. Hi! My son and I were recently told the his female Sapphire would have trouble laying her eggs if mated to Albert the beautiful big English budgie beside her on the right. Since then, my son did some research on the internet and found that the female lays her size eggs no matter. I was wondering what breeders on this forum, with experience in this matter thought. Would Sapphire have any trouble laying eggs? Thanks in advance for your help.

I am really looking forward to seeing your photos - all the best with it!
  11. Would someone or two or three.....answer these questions please. It would be mighty helpful and much appreciated. 1. For clearwing to be true clearwings they shouldn’t have any markings or blemishes on them right? 2. A clearwing with spangle is a spangle clearwing and a clearwing with opaline is an opaline clearwing, right? 3. Do true clearwings in Australia have to have a white tail shaft? I have always thought so! Am I correct? Does anyone have a photo of an opaline clearwing without spangle they can post here please, please, please... Thank you heaps for reading my post and replying if you do so.
  12. Hi! I have bred Japanese Quails for 2 years and I have 8 adults at the moment. Not this year though. I give all my quail chicken layer pellets and weeds from the garden. Dandilion is a must for goods eggs and good health! I do give them bird seed on the odd occasion which they love but I always supply them with fresh dirt to dig in and eat and bath in also - the dirt helps the seed digest properly. Make sure the weeds out of the garden don't have any spray on them - Oh, and they love chickweed!

I followed the instructions from going to the Budgie FAQs then to the Welcome Center. A list will come up - at the bottom of the list is How To Post Images/Pictures. Click on that Heading and you will get the instructions. As far as I could tell. you need to join a photo editing program and hosting service of some sort. I hope this has helped. If you note the image size you would be doing better than me at first, ooops! At least I made the the couple of photos small by 1/2 than what they were!! :-) If you need further help with posting an image I wil try and help. Have I got it right, you put an English male with a smaller female and everything was okay egg laying wise?! Is there much difference in size of the two? If so, my son has hope to put his two budgies together so this is very important information.
  15. I would love to know if anyone thinks Violet might be a dilute instead of clearwing and why? If I mated Violet to a non YF what would be the outcome of YF chicks?

Hi maz7! What does your English Show Budgie look like and what did the babies look like! Hand raising a budgie is something I never really did by myself as I had Sunny's help if I felt a budgie needed a little more feeding than mum could handle near the end of nesting. One day I would like to do it. I think it is quite an accomplishment to do raise a bird of any sort yourself.

Allie and Noah did well with their first time eggs Phoebes. Congratulations! :-)
  18. Who likes a twist on things...a surprise or two...well please read on. Warning ! I'll probably bore you if you don't. I have gone over my very old sms's to Sunshine's breeder and when I had asked if Sunshine was a lacewing, she said, in her words, "Yes, Sunshine is a clearwing." Now that leads me to think I mistook what she said as to saying yes Sunshine was a lacewing clearwing. Sunshine's Mum's Side I also read that the Mother was a black eyed yellow with no iris ring and Sunshine's Grandparents were both Latino. Sunshine's Dad There were two males hanging around Sunshine's mum's nest, a 1.normal green male (Sunshine's mum was caught with big green male so we assumed it was him) 2.clearwing double factor dominant pied with a tiny bit of mauve. He had black pupils and white iris rings. Also, Sunshine had a few blue feathers, I completely forgot about because they were so insignificant under her upper tail! She also had a real slight blue tinge on her front but I put that to a natural tinge of blue some green budgies have. These blue colours have gone now. Cinnamon can be recessive so that's easy to figure out where she got that - dad was split to it. I can't work out where Sunshine would have got the Spangle markings though- I understand now that spangle markings are incomplete dominant? Her sister was definitily not spangle! I have some clue maybe! It was mentioned by hilly on another Forum Topic I have just found, (http://forums.budgie...showtopic=32459) about a possibility that one of the budgies questioned (white budgie) could have been a recessive pied double factor spangles which doesn’t have iris rings. Maybe Sunshine's mum was not a black eyed self but a recessive pied double factor spangle. What do you think hilly? I do hope your reading and I haven't bored you yet !! With all that said, I am guessing Sunshine is either: 1. If her dad was the green normal. A normal clearwing cinnamon spangle or 2. If DFDP slight mauve budgie was her dad. A clearwing single factor dominant pied spangle cinnamon. Either way, there is a 50% chance Sunshine could be split recessive pied also if her mum is. If she was single factor dominant pied, wouldn't Sunshine have more patches of different colour on her? She did have the few blue feathers under the top her tail as mentioned before. If Sunshine is sf dominant pied 50% of her babies would be because Angel has no pied in him and his parent's don't either. Who ever just read all this -cool  thanks!
  19. Hi Hilly! Thanks so much for your input! :-)) Cool - their still girls! Ha! Now, I can understand you thinking Sunshine is a light green cinnamon spangle, but Violet being a cinnamon spangle - that was way out from left field! May I ask why you think that of Violet please? No hurry, just when you can. Thanks. Hi Phoebes - do you live in Australia or Canada! I am very glad you like the photos! In your photo - I am curious to know what Noah's mutation is. I can't quite see him clearly and not his head, but he looks like a clearwing. Am I correct?

Hi and thank you for the welcome birdluv! :-)
  21. Hi BUDGIE LOV3R, Your right in saying that lacewings are albino/lutino with brown wings. I was told that Sunshine's Grandmum and Granddad were Full Lutinos but her mum ended up being a dark eyed yellow who could have been dark ruby eyed like Sunshine. I didn't get to have a real close look at Sunshine's Mums eyes before we left the avairy but I did see she was definately lution looking with much darker eyes. Sunshine's markings on her wings and neck spots are brown. She did have brown on her tail also upto not long ago. Her dad was aparently a normal dark marked green budgie. Her sister looked just like Sunshine but the brown wing markings were where Sunshine's yellow is on her wing feathers. They both had the two or three clear end primary feathers also. I am curious to here what other people think. Thanks for your insight. I find this so fun. :happy-dancing:
  22. amum4children posted a post in a topic in Budgie Pictures
Hi All, I was originally going to ask about the violet on the following two budgies but with some searching on this forum and the internet I can definitely say why the light violet cheeks are on these budgies now. I still want to show you the budgies because I do have a couple of questions about gender and mutation blends at the end of my post. Also any comments about weather you agree with me or not on what gender or mutation these birds are, or anything else about any of the budgies shown, are very welcome - go for it! :-) What my research did, was support my argument for what mutation I think the budgies are. Introducing Sunshine (1) a light green Lacewing 6 months old now and, Violet (2) a very light violet yelowface clearwing opaline. Sunshine is my daughter's budgie. The other beauty (also my daughter's) is her partner 'Angel' - isn't he adorable! Violet is a God Send - I've always loved rainbow budgies. Sunshine at 8 weeks - had very ruby red eyes but her eyes have gained an iris in the last 2 months and darker pupils. White feathers are more profuse than the violet in Sunshine's cheeks now: Here is the beautiful lacewing pattern on her: Her tail has a white quill and up to recently had brown on the tip of it. Next is Violet who is my Rainbow Budgie: I am going to try and find a clearwing opaline mate to put with Violet. It would be great to be able to find a Yellowface with those mutations also! Now to the Questions: 1. I was thinking of adding spangle to the mix of mutations in Rainbow Budgies eventually but spangle clearwings are not possible are they! Spangle is dominant over clearwing isn't it? Thus no Rainbow babies right? 2. Hypothetically, let's say I found a budgie with spangle markings but the opalescent had taken over (markings are colourful) - is that budgie still classed as spangle? 2. What type of Yellow Face do you think Violet is? I think Type 2 dare I say, because I've read type two are not meant to be in Australia!? 3. Do you think she may have some Golden face in her? 4. Have I her gender correct? 5. If I put her with a non yellow face clearwing opaline, is it still possible for me to get yellow face babies? It depends on if she is single factor or double doesn't it? if Violet only has yellow spread onto upper chest she is dominant YF isn't she? 6. Does anyone experienced with Yellow Face Budgie breeding think there is such a thing as a dominant yellow face? 7. What colour body do you think her mate should be so bolder coloured chicks hatch? A bit of history on me. I bred yellow faces 20 years ago with (now I realize) a Yellow Face, Opaline Cinnamon Female and a Spangle Opaline Mauve Blue. All the boys ended up being YF Opaline ( all green eventually) except one boy ended up being a grey I have to admit to remember, because he was my shadow (thus named him so). Shadow just wanted nothing to do with the other budgies when I was home and followed me around everywhere. Not sure if he was yellow face though. All the girls ended up being a Sky Blue with paler spangle markings than their father. Some girls had more opaline spangle markings than others. None showed the cinnamon in there mothers wings. The boys had the most remarkable wing colour - yellow, blue and green. Thanks for reading my post and to those who give their answers  :thanks: . :thanks:

Violet's sister (I’m guessing Sister) was a real bold violet (gorgeous) and comparing Violet to her I wasn't game to call her colour Violet. Violet was just a name I've always wanted to call a budgie! Good for me that she really is a true violet but I understand very pale. I think very beautiful all the same though! I like all shades of violet. :-) The only male I saw out of the lot was a boy that was a Yellow face light grey - again absolutely gorgeous. The reason I chose Violet was that I thought she was a he at first and she really caught my attention on how friendly she was to the other budgies letting them preen her. To tell you the truth, I hadn't even thought of her as a Rainbow either until I bought her home. Earlier that day, I had gone into the pet shop and saw a lovely pied white bird with very bold blue on his back, but then went home to think about him and get my other two children who wanted to have a look also. When I went back, Violet and her Sisters and Brother had all just come in and for some reason Violet was the only one separated from the others into the older budgie section. She was the only 8 week old there with the 13 week old budgies. As you can see, she has a slight patch of yellow on her front that makes those feathers look a little green. I am guessing the yellow will eventually take over and she won't be so violet any more but that's fine. She will still have the violet cheeks. Those violet cheeks are unusual. I am going to have to post about these as I would love to know if they are characteristic of a type of colouring. My daughter has a lacewing green with the same coloured cheeks but as her budgie ' Sunshine' has moulted she has gained white feathers on her cheeks also.
