  1. I just looked in on it and it was sitting up nicely huddled with siblings. It had gotten one leg out though. I placed it through the hole again and placed the chick in. Will try and get a photo next time mum comes out. The 2 day old bub is looking quite tiny and weak and i am worried it is getting trampled on too much. Will keep a close eye on it. Regards, Jaff
  2. Hi all, I have 3 chicks at the moment. The oldest -13 days- has splayed legs. I have used the makeup sponge method. The problem i am worried about is that he is always lying on his side. The Hen is being very protective still, so i hope she doesn't reject him. Should i put him on his feet again or is he alright on his side, i am trying not to disturb them much as mum runs around in a fuss everytime i look in and i have a 2 day old in there. I just don't want to stuff things up for them. Thanks in advance. Regards, Jaff
  3. Thanks again for all the reply's. Will keep an eye on the little one Regards, Jaff
  4. Thank you all for the fast reply. It seems to always be under one of the big ones. I use wood shavings for the bedding, but there's not much in there at the moment as mum always kicks it out. The baby hasnt been feed yet, so I moved it closer to the entrance. Will keep checking regularly. Regards, Jaff

Thank you all for the replies. My pair are raising 2 chicks (so far with 5 more possible) and i am wanting them to get the best chance as i lost 2 in the last clutch at just 2 days old. So far it is all good.... I didn't soak the seed like you think i just meant that i let the mixed seed and oils sit overnight before giving it to them. After i posted this my family noticed that my male was still going to the bottom to look for food and after a quick look, there was some greens that had dropped through so i think that they should be alright with it now. Thank you all again for the fast replies. Jaff

Hi all, I have recently bought vetafarm breading aid and the good oil for birds. I soaked the seed overnight and gave it to them the next day. I i watched them throughout the day and they didn't touch it and even went down to the bottom of the cage to try and get through the wire for the fallen food. Is there any other way that i can get them to have it? Regards Jaf
  8. Thank you all. I will give them a bit of a break for a couple of weeks then try with the added triple c or moxi. I can't thank you all enough for the help. Jaffa
  9. Thank you all for your help i'm certain they are not fertile, there 18 days old with no veins showing when i candle. I took off the nesting box. I dad had a theory ( probably not a good one) that the nesting box was too small? and when the dad came in they got squished But thats just a theory thanks again for the help Jaffa
  10. Sorry for confusion but i meant the second baby being dead aswell in previous post. it had a full crop as well so don't know why this is happening. This is my first clutch and was hoping to have a couple of beautiful babies. The three eggs left are infertile and was wondering when i should take them out? I don't know anything about checking the vent, it never came up in research and i don't know what it should look like so here is the picture http://tinypic.com/r/2z40g0x/5
  11. I checked last night and she was nice and fed but woke up this morning and found it dead
  12. Hi all, Today I found the older of my two budgie babies dead. It was 4 days old. They were both being fed and I thought all was going well until I found it. The younger one is 2 days old. It has been fed regularly, but today I have looked a couple of times and it has either had an emty crop or very little in it. The dead baby seemed to have been fed, so I don't know what's happened. The mother has been doing well and has been sitting In there all day other then for feeds. I have pictures of the dead one if required but I am really worried about the other one. I have hand rearing formula but don't want it to resort to that if I don't have to. Jaffa ( the mum ) is still sitting in there with the other 3 eggs so I don't want to take the littleone out if i don't have to. Please help :/
  13. That's great, thanks very much
  14. Hi all, I'm new here and this is my first post. I am going to breed budgies so i bought a larger cage, but i did not know then that it is better for it to have a longer length than height. I bought a cage that is 91cm high, 80cm Length and 47cm width The nesting box sits up top as that is where i could easily put it without cutting the cage and i have access on the outside. I am wondering if i should move the box down further as i am scared that the babies will fall out and hurt themselves. My hen has already laid 2 eggs ( my first ) and don't want to disrupt her in any way. Thank you in advance for any advice and hope that someone can answer Regards, Jaffa
