  2. Hi all, I'm new to budgie raising, although we bred some in our aviary when I was a kid that was a long time ago. I have a male that I adopted from my work at the RSPCA, I think he was under 1 year as since I brought him home his irises have gotten more obvious and his cere bluer. I bought a young bird with fully black irises from a pet shop, they told me it was a female but now I'm not sure having looked up her color type. She is pale yellow, with an olive and blue patch on her back between her wings, and very pale blue bands on her head/neck. Her legs are pink/red. Her cere is dark pink, with no white around the nostrils. In some lights I can see purple and in other lights light brown! So I'd really appreciate any advice. I'm actually not sure how to post an image.... I will try to find out... Thanks, Erin

Hi Everyone, I'm so glad I found this forum! It seems like there is a whole lot of knowledge and experience here. I'm from the mid-north coast of NSW and I work for the RSPCA part time and also study medical radiation science at Uni full time! I bred budgies many years ago as a kid and we had a young stray male brought into work and I adopted him. His name is Mick Fanning. I tried for a month or so to finger tame him and whilst he submitted to being handled he didn't really seem to enjoy it, so the saga to arrange his marriage began. I finally chose a beautiful blonde cutie I named Steph Gilmore and after a few days in separate cages they have moved in together. I'm hoping for some advice though as I think Steph could actually be a Stephen.... I'll post pics in another thread. Looking forward to meeting you all Erin
