Some Photos Of Finnie's Flock
The Gouldian finch is a male, yellow head, purple breast, and unless my eyes deceive me a single factor yellow back. This is a sex linked mutation. And the good thing about Gouldians of this mutation, is that unlike the usual split mutation, it shows the single factor or split visually. The single factor cock has no black ring round his head or under his chin. All beautiful birds, though my bias towards finches is showing. LML

Unsafe Foods
Can't speak for Budgies, just Galahs. But the difference would I think just be size relative. Feeding apples with the seeds in is very popular with the birds and IN MODERATION safe. The reason being the seeds have a small amount of arsenic in them. Arsenic in small quanities is healthy, but overdoses are fatal of course. Remember a guy I knew years ago, owned a caravan park and put out arsenic to kill the stray cats. They didn't half get to looking sleak. :laughter: LML

What Sex?
If one of the parents is albino and one is not the albino chicks will be the opposite sex to the albino parent,as it it sex linked. Hope this helps. LML

What Type Of Blue ?
Albino is sex linked. An albino hen with a nice sky blue cock will produce albino sons. But she will also produce albino sons with a violet. They would however have a "pinkish" sheen. So any shade of blue cock, including gray, but the lighter the cleaner looking your young cocks will be. LML

New To Budgies
If you have french moult in the nest, it is probably best to clean the nest thourouly after this batch of chicks fledge and seperate the pair for now. If you have a feather duster same deal, but don't put the parents back together in the future. As previoulsly stated the Dad bird has to be split for both opaline and cinnamon in view of the appearance of this chick. Hope your younguns and their parents are all well soon. LML

Aviary Or Breeding Cages/boxes
If your wire has been weathered (left out in the weather for at least 6 months) it will not require the vinegar wash. However if in doubt this is a must with chewey birds like budgies. Cage breeding gives you greater control over the results. Birds in avairys, even if previously cage bonded, may not stay together for a number of reasons. Hen or cock not as far advanced in breeding condition as their suposed mate is a common one. Avairy breeding is easier. However! If you do not have more nests than hens murder will take place. If you do not have even numbers of sexs murder can take place. There are considerable pitfalls. Cage breeding the birds may not like your choice of mate and ignore each other. Nothing is guaranteed. But the birds are darlings and worth all the effort. Good luck. LML
