  1. Hey, here is a picture of one of my chicks, but I have forgot when It hatched and have no idea how old it is. Because most of you are expercied breeders I thought you might be able to tell roughly how old it is looking at the picture. Also its dad cant fly at the moment and just sits ontop of the next box all day so the mother has to do all the feeding will the chick still survive with just its mother looking after it ? Cheers, James http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b104/iro...1_/DSC00394.jpg
  2. Do you have to clean the branches? I thought you would, but what with?
  3. Hello, I have finally got my avairy built and now all I need now is to put the stuff in. I was thinking about using tree branches to use as perches and I was wondering how think the the branches ment to be or does it not matter? And do you have to clean them? if so what do you clean them with?. cheers, james

I breed a pair of budgies twice a couple of months ago and I was told you should let them rest before you start breeding them again. I was wondering how long do you have to let them rest before you start breeding them again?
  6. I am still waiting for one of my parents to take me to an avain vet! He is still alive today (thank god) and he is looking alrite, not breathing heavily for any thing and also he is eating fine but not sure if he is drinking. He can now lift his head up after that injection he had, but he still cant perch, walk or fly. Hopefully I will be able to take him in tomorrow and give him an x-ray to see what is actually wrong with him.
  7. I desided to let him rest for the night and take him in the morning. I took him to the general vet and they said he might just have a buised spine becuase he can still move his wings so they injected him with this stuff I cant remember what it was and he should heal within 24 hours if it is a buised back, if he not alrite by monday they have to call it a day. I am worried about how he surrpose to eat and drink if he cant get up. How suggests how I can feed him and give him water myself or other ways?
  8. My parents tell me that the vets cant cure a broken back is this ture?
  9. I accidently stood on my budgie :hap: about 5 minutes ago. He was on the floor and I forgot about him then when I got off my bed I stood on him .I think I broke his back because he lays on his front and cant lift him self up, he can move his feet and wings because he trys to fly. My closes avain vet is about 2 hours away and I dont think he will survive the trip and plus my parents arent going to take me in at this time of night 10:40 pm if its a 4 hour trip plus about 1+ hours being there. He is my only tamed budgie and he is 9 weeks old. HELP NEEDED!!!
  10. It doesnt like being held? Whenever I put my hand in the nest box it runs over into the corner and sometimes when I go to pick it up it starts squaking.
  11. My chick is 16 days old so what should I feed it then? I belive its to young to give it millet or fresh veg.

Is it ture your suppose to handle the baby when it is at least 2 weeks old, thats what I heard and I deicided to post here to find out if its true. Also do you have to hold the chick every day for it to become totally tamed?

The chick survived 10 days and died I checked it and saw that it crop was empty so the hen stopped feeding it why would she do that? I have bad luck with breeding, I had 7 eggs altogether 2 infertile 3 dead in shell and 2 hatched but died. Does this normally happen?

After just watching the hen for half an hour because she lets me watch her, And I saw her feeding the chick and the chicks crop is filling up which is good news! Lets hope this chick survives.

The chick is chirping all the time sounds like its hungry, what does the crop look like when its empty because at the moment it looks like its full of air.

How often do the chicks get fed because the chick hatched about lunch time and the crop is still empty?

Today the secound baby hatched and I was watching the hen today it looks like she is attacking it? She was using her beak and pulling it towards her and looks like she is digging her beak into the baby? Is this normal because pushing and pulling the chick around surely cant be good.

There is an egg about to hatch it has had cracks around it for 2 days now and I can hear the chick chirping inside does this mean it could be trapped inside because its been 2 days since it started to hatch and it still hasent come out??
  19. James Woodley replied to James Woodley's post in a topic in Breeders Discussion
Yes this is the first time she has bred and I dont know if the hen was feeding it?

My first baby hatched last night and this afternoon I found it dead? Is there a common reason why this happens or is there something I am doing wrong? It seemed fine when I checked it this morning. I dont want this to happen to all the chicks that hatch :ausb:
  21. My budgies have laid 7 eggs so far and I was wondering if it is rare for all the eggs to hatch and how many eggs will hatch if I have 7 eggs?
  22. Can you breed 2 female with 1 male? Will the male mate with both of them. I have put two nest boxes in the cage and both of the hens are going in both of them and the cock is feeding both hens, I belive that the cock would struggle to look after two clutches. Is it possible? Cheers, James
