Thanks to those who have replied to me. I managed to find a 6 week old male budgie on the weekend, who is now happily ensconced in Mum's house. Now the taming begins! Deebo

I am looking to buy a baby budgie for my Mum, who is in her 60s and lives alone. She is keen to have a tame pet that she can allow out of the cage but is not particularly confident in her abilities to catch or handle a budgie so ideally it would eventually learn to return to the cage of its own free will. She lives in the outer eastern suburbs of Melbourne (Knox area) so I am looking for a breeder in this area. Ideally we want to purchase this weekend as this was meant to be her Christmas present so she is getting impatient! If anyone can recommend breeders in the area that would be great. Also any advice on hand reared or not. If I can't get a hand reared one will it be difficult to tame and what is the ideal age to buy - 5-6 weeks or is up to 3-4 months okay? Thanks. PS Kaz I have seen your advice to "research breeders". Any tips on how to actually do that?
