My New Feather Kids
After losing Purdie, I didn't stay budgie-less for very long. My daughter still had her cockatiel but was jealous of the "hand tameness" of Purdie. She decided that she wanted a budgie so she bond with as Popeye wasn't that way inclined. So off we went to get our new friends. This is Dante' (took a couple of days to find a name that suited him). He is a male Mauve spangle (I think) This is my daughters budgie Mouse.- She is a female, cobalt recessive pied (I think) Her original name was Storm but whilst they were in seperate cages she climbed around like a mouse so she earned her new name. The funny thing is the day we bought them home, her cockateil decided that he wanted to be friendly and started stepping up on her hand (must of been jealous of the newbies) I kept the budgies in seperate cages to make it easier to hand tame them. We did let them out for playtime after a few days and Dante' learned quickly that a stick (or coloured ladder) meant safety from the floor, Mouse however is an independant little miss and would only be "rescued" via the tiny vet cage - she would hop on the side and then hop off at her destination. In the end I put them both in the same cage as Daughter was concentrating on Popeye and I was happy enough to be able to be work around them without them going off in a tizz. Neither are hand tame yet but I am still working on it (albeit at a slow pace) Mouse is still an independant miss but she will hop onto the ladder on occasion to be helped. She however is excellent at climbing the rope we have hanging off the play gym to the floor. They get daily flying time and lots of lovely veggies daily. Beetroot is a fun veggie to give. thats it for now, will take more photos soon

Introducing...purdie
Hi, I am still around, reading but not posting. Unfortunately I lost my beautiful boy just after Xmas. We were camping (caravning actually) and all had been going well for a week and a half. Out of cage time in the van for Purdie and Popeye (my daughters one eyed Cockateil) several times a day (with door firmly shut). Sitting outside in the lovely weather, birds in cages, dogs on long leads (still young and tend to wander and not come back when called). Except one day one of the friendly regulars said hello to my very friendly dog whom went bouncing up to greet him, unfortunately his lead crossed paths with Purdies cage and popped the door. (I had every opening tied except the door). Well Purdie took off like a shot. Considering his wings weren't fully grown back from being clipping he flew spectacularly. We spent the rest of the afternoon trying to find him, thinking that with the limited amount of flying he had done he shouldn't get far before getting tired. I wasn't very civil to anyone for the rest of the day as I was so upset. We searched for the next few days before we had to come home but no luck in finding him. I even got the park owners to put their budgies out the front of the office just in case it might tempt him to go them.

Introducing...purdie
Hello all, I am a newbie to Budgies and have been reading the forum have picked up some super information. Purdie is still a baby and we are still getting to know each other. I am quickly learning what he likes and he is not backwards in telling me off when I have given him something he doesn't like (or it even put it in the "wrong" place). I am wondering what color my boy is? (definite blue cere even when I first got him.) thanks, I am enjoying reading my way through all the posts (hope the pictures are all right - I did read up on how to resize pictures) Sandi
