The first 2 babies have hatched from the second clutch. There are 9 total eggs...these 2 eggs would have to be the first 2 laid when I count back on the days...so it looks good so far..the 3rd eggs should hatch tomorrow. I will try to post some picture`s...

Thank you finnie for the info.. I really think that 9 would be to many for her. I will be happy ever how many she raises..Looks as though the pair is going to be a productive one..I will give them a rest after this clutch..The male is staying in the box now most of the day is he also sitting on the eggs ? How long would you let them rest before putting the nest box back in place ? Thanks again....

The 2 babies are all grown up now and I was unsure about the color so lastnight I did some research and found out that they are both spangle. Is spangle rare ??? The female has laid again and has 9 eggs can she possibly hatch that many ???
  6. Welcome really like your bird...

I do not have a problem with pellets just do not want to put them on them full time..That would be like me eating Peanut Butter all the time..As a matter of fact I had planned to get some pellets the next time I am at Petsmart. They will have a seperate dish for pellets if they choose to eat them...I especially like the Bird Bread and so do they. I feel like they are really getting a boost when they eat that...I am off in the morning to buy 6 more budgies that are 4 mo. old and will be placed in quartine for 30 days away from the ones I have now...This lady that I am buying them from really has the verity of colors in her flock and that is what I am looking for...thanks for the comments I do pay attention to what ya`ll say.

I'm curious, what exactly is this 'new and improved' diet? Could you possibly tell us the old diet too? The birds were just being fed a plain seed mix from Walmart. After reading on this forum about combining different typs seeds for a better mix I have done that. I also added leefy veggies (greens) and mixed veggies and fruits. I also cooked up some Bird Bread with different oils veggies and fruits mixed in it...( recipe from this forum ) and I am giving them a 30% protine turkey crumbles NO MEDS in it..They love that stuff.. And they now get bottled water...I also have 2 eggs now and she is setting on them.. I am also giving them some egg mixture that I got at Petsmart... I see. That's certainly an improvement, however, I'd highly recommend switching away from seeds and to a good pellet brand such as Harrisons, www.harrisonsbirdfoods.com. The problem with a multi-seed diet, aside from it being incomplete, is that birds, Especially budgies, will often just pick out their favorite seeds and disregard the rest. Your conversion to bottled water is little to no difference, as opposed to regular tap water, but it doesn't hurt. You may, however, find an increase of algae or that green slime growing because of the lack of chlorine/chlormine in the bottled water, just make sure you wash it very well. Good luck, anyway~ Thanks but I will just stick to feeding them seeds as part of their diet. So far they are not picky about them and seem to enjoy all of them....No green slimy stuff here clean fresh water everyday...So far they are enjoying all the different foods that I am giving them...

The birds were given to me by a friend 2 weeks ago. There were 3 of them in the same cage. 2 females and 1 male. They were said to be about 1 yr. old and they belonged to a friend of mines grandson and he could not keep them any more because they had moved into a place that no pete were aloud. These 3 birds have been together for a long time as pets. I was ask if I would take them because I raise Pigeons and gamebirds and knew something about birds but not Budgies...So I said yes I will take them. So that is why the new and improved diet was put into place. I took one of the females out and put her into another cage. The pair that was left loves each other very much and has shown it on many occations. Well now she has laid 1 egg and that was yesterday..I am just going to leave them together and let them do there thing and take the very best care of them that I can. I have been reading about their diets and care for 2 weeks now and I know much much more about them than before. If they want to breed and lay and raise their young then I will let them do so...Thanks for your help and we all have to start some where each of you did...I can see in my future a very nice large avery with many Budgies in it on a well fed diet and a happy long life...

Sorry but I have been away for a few days...Thanks for your answer on the greens. I live in the Southern United States and we eat alot of Collard and Mustard greens here along with cornbread. When cooking these greens we add a small amount of hog fat to them to bust the flavors...I have plenty growing in my garden at this time so I will start feeding them to my Budgies on a regular basic...Just straight from the garden and fresh washed...

Hello this would be my first post. Just wanted to say hello and I am new to keet breeding. I said that I was a breeder but I am a want to be breeder. I have just aquired 2 pr. I think of parakeets and would like to raise some babies from them...I have a lot of learning to do about them and will do so. One of the first questions that I have is...is this a good time of the year to let them breed or will they even breed this time of year. I have them paired up and in seperate cages with a nest box on the cage. One pair is acting real broody and the female is going in and out of the box all the time. These are about 1 yr old birds...Thanks and I am glad to be here.
