My Cinnamon Grey Hen...
use a opaline but not a grey try to get one with a good head as the hen appears a little narrow (might just be the picture) but most opalines have good masks and spots

Oscar & Lucinda
if you didnt mark the egg and fostered it how will you know for future breeding pairs
-
The Difference Between
most white wings in the uk show circuit have poorly marked wings this is down to them being crossed with normals attempting to get the size up on the birds

Budgerigar Colour Guide
the bs have published their own book on colour standards under grey green it states mask: buttercup yellow, ornamented by six evenly spaced large round black throat spots, the outer two being partially covered by the base of the cheek patches. the buttercup yellow of the mask extending over the frontal crown, to merge with the black undulations at the back of the head. the frontal and crown should be clear and free from all markings. cheek patches: grey. general body colour: rump, breast, flanks and underparts grey green of a solid and even shade throughout. markings: on cheeks, back of head, neck and wings; black with a well-defined buttercup yellow edge, all markings should be free from any intrusion of body colour. primary wing flights:black with a minimal buttercup yellow edge. primary tail feathers:black. feet and legs:blue/grey mottled. eyes:black with a white iris. note their are light, medium and dark shades of grey green a little bit more in depth than it has to be grey green

Pairing Birds
spangle to spangle can affect the wing markings i prefer spangle to normal which in the show world is the prefered pairing but some people to pair spangle to spangle i did know of one i will have a look to see if i can find it again When you say that breeding colbalt to cobalt that you can get patchiness to the breast.. does that mean that some of the white down kind of shows through the blue on the chest? and Should you not breed birds that have that?

Fluffys Health And Genetics
a trait of feather dusters is that normally they are very aggressive

The Budgerigar Program
yes daz i did and although i use it i must admit i prefer my paper and pen records i have found looking up my birds and putting them in a show cage to asses their faults and pluses then to return to their history and look at their pedigree and family i get a better understanding of what i will (hopefully) achieve

Budgerigar Colour Guide
daz the best i can come up with is to check your national standard
-
New Avairy
daz how did the cull of birds go (not killed) its quite hard to decide isnt it
-
Budgerigar Colour Guide
exactly daz people need to check the wbo colour standard is not wildly used

Pairing Birds
violets = smaller birds lutinos = lack in head, mask quality opalines = good size birds, head, mask and spots but are the main cause of flecking and op x op over a few generations will shorten the mask op carry good large spots but it is the hen that has more influance on spot size than the cock cinnomens = feather quality only breed c x c one generation as it will concentrate th smaller finer feathers c x c also shortens the mask greys = df greys are undesirable for exhibition purposes breed two together and size will be lost grey greens = this colour for some reason seems to throw up good quality birds from the start so giving a good start but a lot of other people will have good grey greens as well so the classes are harder cobalts = breeding co x co will give you poor colouration as well as patchiness to the breast

Budgerigar Colour Guide
the bs was formed first then the wbo by some prominent people in the bs who disagreed with the ideal other the last few years the wbo has put their ideal to the bs to see if they can adopt the same ideal so far the bs has not accepted their version and continues to use their own now as the bs is the biggest club and has more shows in the uk that is the ideal you should look at in the other countries check with your main society to see which ideal they are using as if you follow the wbo you will be trying to get to a different standard and will not be very successful

Pairing Birds
very good daz but you need to think outside the box as well when pairing up remember some of the effects that certain colours and types have on your birds ie grey greens, violets, lutinos, opolines and cinnomens
-
Budgerigar Colour Guide
be carefull if you show in uk as the bs standards are different to wbo
-
Inos
thats rite daz as light greens cause the green sheen to a lutino
-
Inos
it is very hard to keep lutinos x lutinos the size and quality you need for exhibition standard after a while head and size will be lost so a non lutino would have to be used you are bringing this bird in to improve the head, mask and size violets would not meet that requirment evan though they would enhance the colour most of the top violets bred by accident from studs with a few dark factor birds

Natural Perch
i can only think as mine are show and never been use to them (these are the birds i have replaced my stolen ones with) that is the reason why they dont like all my old birds at my dads have natural branchs from a apple tree but they always had these
