  4. My name "5Bunnies" started about 5 years ago when I did have a total of 5 bunnies in our house (all fixed .. spayed or neutered, living in seperate cages). Through the years some have died or/and been replaced by other bunnies or other pets. I now have 3 bunnies, 4 degus, 1 dog and 3 budgies. Thought I keep my name as 5Bunnies ... I'm just used to it. Guess I should have it as 5Bunnies++ LOL. All in all I love any kind of animals. Always have, and with a loving husband I am able to convince him to letting "just one more" of whatever animal in the house. The bugies started this past Feb. I was at a local pet store picking up some aspen shuffing for the bunnies and there on their counter were 2 really pretty bugies. A yellow (male) and blue (female). But their cage was more of a jail cel. They had two perches going from front to back of the cage .. but they were elastic hooks (the things you use to tie together something needing heavy fasteners). They were selling both birds and the cage for $40. I went home, begged my dear husband for them (early birthday present for my March bday) and he said yes (okay not right away, but by the next day I got them). I was told they were male and female and they "could" eventually lay eggs, but they would have to be comfortable to do that. They were not hand fed or very friendly, but I fell in love with them anyway. A few days later I changed their cage ... they got new toys, ropes and perches etc. I had a cd on repeat the whole day that played bird music (soft relaxing music). Well ... in June Skye (blue/female) started emptying the seed dishes and would just sit in it. At first I thought she was looking for a particular seed that she liked but then it hit me ... "baby time". So I got a nesting box. First batch of eggs (4) were duds. But she started to lay again shorlty after that. On Aug 12th Sunny (dad) and Skye were the new parents of a baby birdie (out of 5 eggs). However for whatever reason it died a few hours later. On Aug 19th the 2nd one was born (and just turned 8 weeks old yesterday). Poppins is in her own cage and loves to sit on my shoulder when I'm on the computer and snuggle under my vest I wear just for her to stay warm. The 3rd and final baby was born 3 days later, but 2 days after that, it too died. When Poppins was 5 weeks old she was ready to be taken out of their cage .... Skye had started to lay again. On Oct 12th the first baby was born. It is doing well. No other eggs have hatched. From what I can tell .... only 2 more are good (dark). The other 2 are quite transparent. Still leaving them in there to balance baby and keep mom from totaly sitting on baby. Well if you've gotten all the way down to here .. thank you. Looking forward to see what I can learn on here.
