I made a swing out of bamboo, pony beads, and help cord. I didn't think of it when making and placing the swing in the cage, and then noticed hemp was located under toxic planets. I used the search function and saw hemp products where al right for bungies. The question is, is help cord al right to use in home made budgie items? If it is toxic, what can I use for rope?
  2. With the pine cones, is baked on sap okay for budgies? It's not sticky, but it's glazed on. EG. if a bird starts playing with it, it would get stuck on the feathers.
  3. I guess the only way now to find out if I see an egg at the bottom of the cage.
  4. That is the vein I'm talking about. Is it more visible on light colored budgies then darker ones, or visible on all budgies?
  5. I noticed my bird stretching his leg and wing and noticed a red veins on the upper part of the wing. I'm just wondering if this is a normal thing for light colored budgies?
  6. I managed to find some corn on the cob over the week end. First time I gave him some on the ledge I rigged up, he ended up tossing the cut up cob on the bottom of the cage. Second piece I used a close pin I use for millet, and he ate it. This time I used a bamboo skewer and he he trying to figure out how to eat the corn with out it rolling, pictures following. I think he is starting to figure out how to eat the corn with out it rolling about. Edit: I used the wrong code when posting the pics.
  7. Thanks Kaz. I'm trying to get as much fresh corn to feed chicken-hawk before winter hit and all the fresh fruits and veggie prices take a huge price hike.
  8. I did check the search feature on the forum before asking. With corn on the cob for budgie, do you give your birds the corn, raw or boiled?
  9. With the oranges, would Clementines fall under the oranges category or fruit. With kiwi, skin on or skin off with feeding to a budgie?

I'm going to be adding some bells to the gym, and was at Michael's(craft store in town) and they had silver and gold bells. I was wondering if these bells would be safe for Chicken-Hawk?

I'm going to attempt to build a perch/play gym for Chicken-Hawk and was wondering how other members assembled theirs? Did you use wood glue, wood screws or nails?
  12. Thank you very much for the help. I forgot I posted this topic and didn't realize it had replies until I was looking for something else.
  13. I'm looking for a second opinion on what sex my budgie is. I think it's a female, but not 100% sure. Here is the picture of Chicken-Hawk
  14. I was wondering what fruits I can feed my budgie as something different from seed and millet? I know Chicken-hawk likes lettuce, well most of it ends up on the bottom of her cage, but was wondering if they like more seedy fruit like kiwi, or more citric fruit like oranges?
  15. About the laying of eggs, is this something that happens like chickens(eggs will be produced wither a male is present or not), or does a male need to be present for the eggs to be produced, or I'm completely off and have no clue about budgie reproduction? Having a budgie is a lot different then having a cat.
  16. okay thanks. That's very helpful. Could adding a strip of spray millet into the cage might have trigged this "breeding" behaviour being a large food source?
  17. Hi, I'm new to the budgie world, and have a behaviour question. This morning, my female budgie started grabbing shredded paper from the bottom of her cage and started to move them and look around the cage with the paper in her peck. Also she is the only budgie I have. My question is, is this her way she is getting ready to lay eggs, or is this her way of trying to find some entertainment?
