  1. Hey splat if you pm me your email address I'll email through my 1st and 2nd years notes on using the microscope and various staining methods. There is a trick to staining ;-) also what dyes are you using! Looking at poop under the microscope requires a good eye, if you found the mega your eye is obviously quiet good :-) cocci are not as easy to find! I had to grow my cultures to be able to get a good look at them!
  2. Hey Splat how are you getting on with this? Dr Rob marshals book is also very very good, regardless of price it us well worth it! Also I am not sure but I can send you some notes from my microbiology course on staining slides etc if you are interested! I have had a few crop flushes under the microscope now and was totally blown away by some if the stuff that us found under the microscope! If you would like anything I have text books coming out the wazoo on microorganisms, pH tolerances, etc etc!
  3. I was speaking to a club member at a meeting the other night who has had some major issues with birds getting sick with megabacteria, I told her to just throw a few lemons quarters into the aviary and her hospital cage and allow the birds to eat them at will, this is something I do once a week in dry periods and three tines a week in wet periods ( like now in Melbourne) birds that are feeling unwell will naturally eat more of these foods to aid in the increase of intestinal acid levels! She did this the sane night after the meeting and called today to inform me that her birds are already looking 100 times better! I avoid putting ACV or citric acid in the water as all bacteria if exposed to high levels of acid will eventually mutate to accommodate these levels! As Splat mentioned earlier, one of the largest issues that we are facing with medications at the moment is the over use of things like antibiotics and even natural products which in turn allows for higher tolerance levels to these things! It is always best to only treat with antibiotics and other medications as a cure not a prenvtative! Our birds are quiet intelligent and will generally only eat the lemons / oranges when they feel the need it.
  4. Hi everyone, I am on the lookout for some visual and crest bred budgies. I currently have a few but only have a limited gene pool and need to avoid inbreeding. If anyone is in the know of a breeder that is doing a cull in the Melbourne area, I would love to hear from you. I will also consider freighting birds as well! Thanks Pip
