  1. Hi Kaz, I always go to Wattle Grove and see Tim. I wasnt able to see him and had to see one of the other vets but i took my chances as im sure she would have had more experinence with birds than the vets i work with who just euth everything He is doing really well now - would never know he had a sore leg!
  2. No idea on the mutations sorry but have to laugh as i have a marshall and a lilly too - good old how i met your mother
  3. yay, well then theyll be coming home with me! I think im slowly getting better with the younger budgies and sexong again, im atleast now able to pick out males and females from one another when there is a group of them, its when there is nothing to compare them too that i run into trouble! Thanks guys
  4. I hope so!!! My budgie flock is growing at a frightening pace it seems. A friend has offered my her whole flock as she is moving overseas - none are over 18 months of age and she has lots of lovely pieds too! However most of hers are pairs and i still need 2 girls to make my numbers even - looks like i may have someone who can supply me with two young beautiful girls though!
  5. He is doing really well actually I really thought his leg was going to be broken because of all the swelling but it is actually very stable and now he is on a course of anti inflammatories and AB's for a week to let everything settle down and to make sure infection doesnt set in
  6. Hi there guys. Ive been offered a few budgies of a nice young lad looking to downsize a little, he has been kind enough to send me some photos so that i can ask your opinion on sex - one i am pretty sure is a female but because it is white i shall ask anyone and the other i think may be a male (he isnt sure yet) its a very pale blue and white budgie The one i am pretty sure is a female as the cere colouring is brown! And the one i think is probably a boy but im not 100% sure Would love to know what you think! Hehas a few handsome young males that he would like to sell too but i would really like to get a few females first!
  7. Id be interested to see what they come back with too I was just searching bidgies for sale on the net and it popped up!
  8. Ahh it seems such a short time into my "rebirth" of budgie owning that im allready of the the vets tomorrow morning - i took the day off work to go for one of our little boys who has hurt his little leg - He is in a hospital cage for the night on a nice warm heating pad. Looks like one of the other budgies had a chomp at him. His leg is intact but there is a scabby bit and its a tad swollen - he still has blood flow to it and can still open and close it so i presume it shall be all okay (i hope so) I work as a vet nurse at a very good vet clinic in perth but i dont trust the vets i work with with my birdies as they have a tendency to think all birds that are injured should be euthanaised. hence i go to another vet clinic to see a fantastic birdie vet that ive seen for years and i trust with my birds lifes! He hasnt lost one yet! I will post pictures of the injury tomorrow and let you all know how it goes
  9. As far as im aware there is no such thing as a pink budgie because it isnt possible to acheive that colouration - Why do i always see people trying to flog off "pink" calcium perch dyed budgies to unsuspection people -it really irks me! Do many people fall for the "pink" budgie adds? I see there is one advertised on gum tree at the moment with "reasonable offers only" as its base line. Im guessing its just another person trying to scam someone who thinks they are getting something rare and wonderful. Has anyone here fallen for the pink budgie sales? Megan
  10. Hey Guys, Thanks for the tips! Im going to have to head over to the avicultural club meeting / auctions one of these days and join the various budgie clubs for WA too so i can attend meeting etc. Megan
  11. Looks like i may have found the girls i was after! Thanks everyone!
  12. Hi Guys, Another wanted add from me! I would love to buy some breeding cages / cabinets - im looking for around 10 cages in total If anyone has some for sale or knows of someone who can build me some i would love to know! Not needed for a little while as im not planning on breeding anytime soon but would be nice to have some when im finally ready! It will be nice to have some budgie babies... much quieter and more pleasant sounding that baby toos!
  13. woops Guys, thought id correct the spelling of my Name. its spelt Megan - my computer keys are not so great anymore and a & e seem to come together failry often and since meagan is another way of spelling my name it still seems to make sense. Ill make sure to edit my posts more carefully in the future as this keyboard isnt very reliable!! O & u dont work all that often and i think i type to fast for the keyboard to register and letters often get missed out (whole sentences sometimes!!) Thanks for the welcome! Im allready enjoying the friendly atmosphere here!
  14. Hi guys, Im looking for 4 x female pet type budgies in Perth, WA - happy to travel to pick them up anywhere in WA. Would prefer some pieds or violets or really enything that looks lovely and will help brighten the budgie aviary and could be used for breeding in a year or so (so babies are fine!) Also mabye looking for some older pairs of birds that would produce some nice offspring if bred in the future PM me if you can help out! Megan
  15. thanks everyone for your advice so far! Its much appreciated and very helpful! Kaz thanks for the info on cere colour ill try and practice so i get the knack back! Finn they were out of the same aviary in the same shop and bought within two days of each other so i presumed they would be okay as they are the birds that i was thinking about buying on the same day as the first pair. Normally i quarantine for three months with new birds in the set up here as we have some birds that are too valuable to lose if we dont quarantine =)
  16. Hi Amy, I notice there are a few perth people here! I got them from a bird dealer in perth who assured me the white was a female and did the same to my partner for the yellow bird, it was the owner of the shop who markets himself as having over 30 years of experience so i thought i would be able to trust his word on sexes but perhaps he doesnt have all that much experience with budgies afterall Well it looks like i will have to start looking for some nice girls to join my flock!
  17. The white ones are the same bird K&M I hope she is a female The markings are a cinnamon / very pale brown colour and extend over the wings and across the back and make their way up over the back of the head too.
  18. Well that is dissapointing if that is the case. I suppose some people will do anything just to sell and make money. They werent cheap budgies either at $38 each from a reputable bird shop (probably the only reputable one in perth) I was told the two i got were a female and male pair and the hubby was told the two he bought were a male & female pair *sigh* Looks like ill be looking for four pretty females if the yellow is a male too & i wont be going to bird dealers any longer to buy.
  19. Thanks Neville, I thought that may be the case i was assured it was a female but looking at cere colouring i had a little niggling doubt, The hubby bought home two new budgies for me today so now i have four in my aviary - i know one of the ones he bought home is male but perhaps you could help me out on the other one (was sold as a female). This is the cinnamon lacing on the back and wings of the white budgie in the first photo just for interests sake If ive got four boys well i guess id better start looking for four girls in nice colours to join the flock - not that i intend to breed anytime soon but if i ever decide to atleast then ill have some pairs. Cheers for your help so far
  20. Ive confused myself silly over this one. I think she was sold to me as a female but the more i look at her the more i think mabye she is actually a he! I havent had budgies for a very long time (been out of the budgies for atleast 10 years!) and im out of the knack of sexing them so your help would be much appreciated! He/she is also a funny colour, white with a blue sheen and cinnamon lacing on the wings - not sure if that will help with sexing
  21. Hi Everyone, My name is Meagan and ive recently discovered this forum whilst googling the net and thought as i am a budgie lover i might as well join up! I have kept birds of all sorts since i was a child - budgies were the first birds i kept as pets and it seems now that ive returned to keeping the delightful little birds. Ive kept cockatoos of all sorts and id have to say out of everything ive owned (and still do own) the budgies would have to have the most personality and character. At the moment we only have our two Budgies, Alfonz an Esmerelda. They arent tame but happily reside in their own aviary with their next door neighbours (in seperate aviaries) the major Mitchells, Galahs, Sulphur Cresteds and an assortment of black cockatoos. It give me much pleasure to sit on the back porch and single out the budgies pleasant chattering beneath all of the racous squaking of the toos. Hope to meet lots of budgie lovers on this site and learna little more about my colourful friends and mabye even add more to my flock in the near future! Chat to yu soon!
