Bought A New Boy Today
I bought him from a member of the club I just joined (ABS). I can pm you the details if you like. I got him for $25. I have seen birds in pet shops varying from $30-$35 all the way up to $75 (yes I nearly choked) for just a very average pet shop type variety, nothing special and certainly not the hand raised they claim to be. We bought a fantastically tame hand raised lutino from another breeder on the Gold Coast for $50, and as a pet she was worth every cent. She was the friendliest most adorable thing from the first minute.

Bought A New Boy Today
I bought a nice big grey normal 2010 rung cockbird today. His name is Adam. He is in quarantine at the moment and is desperately trying to bust out to get to the others in the flight!

Omg! We Have An Egg!
We went to our first club meeting tonight and I sooo enjoyed it. It was so interesting to see them judge the birds that people bought along for the evening. I met some terrific people and learned a lot in just one evening. Definately recommend joining a club! The knowledge that is shared is so fantastic and interesting and people were so keen to teach me. Just being able to talk budgies nonstop for a while was great.

Sparkles laid her first egg today! YAY!!!

Unique :)
What a cute baby! Have fun with it, it looks very relaxed and must be loved to be so. Keep us posted on her/his progress. I'm not experienced enough with really young budgies to comment on gender!

Female Mating On Top
They seem to be doing it in ALL sorts of ways this afternoon. So I'm pretty hopeful something went right today at least. They were pretty rampant all afternoon. Cosmo is all fluffed up asleep (I wonder if he had a birdie cigarette after) and Sparkles in ensconsed in the nesting box. I was pretty amused and the kids were grossed out...!! (young teens!!!) LOL.

Female Mating On Top
Thanks. That is exactly what she is doing. Must be normal I guess He seemed quite okay with it all too.

Female Mating On Top
Cosmo and Sparkles have started mating recently. Today I observed them and Cosmo (boy) would be on top and then after he had gotten off Sparkles (hen) would get onto his back and appeared to be mating with him below her. I've not seen this one before! Has anyone else? They have been at it all afternoon. So I'm hoping we will have eggs in the next 10 days or so.

Could Not Stop Myself.
What a sweetie! I have her boy doppleganger... He is gorgeous too and was an unplanned purchase on the day I bought my Albino hen, TInkerbell. I took one look like you did and couldn't leave such a sweetie there either. The photo doesn't capture his really luminous green/blue either.

New Mutation?
She's a cutie...! Probably had a fantastic time scratching on the calcium thing I thought Cobalt was really dark, and that blue was skyblue... hmm I will have to go looking at the budgie colour chart again. Is the really indigo blue a dark factor thing... so much to learn!!!!

New Mutation?
Cool picture. Is that a real mutation or a photographic colour cast?!

Finally found an albino boy !
Thank you guys. We are sooo proud of him! He's our first really good bird and we are so excited. Percy and Tinkerbell are now sitting on the same perch (albeit at opposite ends!) but both look relaxed about it and are just grooming and acting natural. Tinkerbell is a really shy girl, and there is NO way they are getting a nesting box until I can see them really bonding. I don't want to stress either of them out any more than they have been. It will take as long as it will with these two. I wanted to get Tink out of the main aviary asap, as she was being chased around by both Gilbert AND Whizzbang the Terrible. She must be coming into season. On Saturday morning, Whizzy had her bailed up crouched underneath the water bowl that is fixed to the side of the aviary. He was in full song, head fluffed up and bobbing away wooing her and the poor girl was totally cornered. Possum would have just chomped him and moved out, but Tink is too shy, she was just looking so miserable and stuck! We call Whizzy the Howard Wallowitz of birds. At least Percy is a whole lot more gentlemanly and doesn't seem to be doing the birdy octopus thing with her. He seems happy to sing on his perch from the other end.

Is It Safe To Add Quails?
Hi, if you are wondering why you recognise the budgie names... Gizmo is my daughter. She fell in love with a King Quail today while we were sticky beaking at all the birds. I told her she had to research it thoroughly... Thank you for helping.

Finally found an albino boy !
Fabulous. I thought I was doing the right thing. I should have listened to my gut feeling. Hopefully this time it will be okay. He is bright and healthy and is separated in a cage with just TInkerbell. He hasn't been in the main avairy at least. His cere is pinkish purple with very faint tinged of blue at the outer edges. His band is blue and he was hatched on 05/01/2010 I just had a good look at his eyes and they look either very very dark plummy red or black. Without peering at him with a strong light I just can't be sure. Still cross at myself.

Its Been A Week...!
okay. I get it. Stop being the anxious wannabe budgie Mum!! I promise not to harass them by checking tomorrow... I'm sooo excited! God help my kids when they have first dates... Yikes!
-
Its Been A Week...!
Sigh... thank you both. I'll stop eyeballing them and give them time Poor things probably think I am a weirdo....

Scared Of Toys
Whenever I put in a new toy into my aviary it gets treated like a potential axe murderer for days. No one will go anywhere near it. Eventually they decide to investigate it and then it becomes the new favourite to fight over.

Its Been A Week...!
Sparkles and Cosmo have been in the cabinet together for a week now. They are doing all the right things. Lots of grooming and him feeding her, and they spend a lot of the day in the nest box together. I haven't seen them mating, but that's possible as I am trying not to disturb them too much. I know it can take up to three weeks, but do you think I'm being too impatient after a week? First time for both of them. they have everything I can think of they might need. I'm just so damned excited to have babies again! Sigh. Patience is a virtue... I must remember that!!!

Finally found an albino boy !
Well, Tink and Percy are still eyeing each other from opposite perches... but at least they look more relaxed! It's only day two together and they are both maidens, so fingers crossed on the bonding.

Finally found an albino boy !
I kept him aside all day and watched his poos and behaviour. He came from a National winning show breeder and she told me as long as his poos were normal (and she had been watching him too) then it would be okay. Her aviaries are immaculate. Pet shop birds, definitately!!!!!! No brainer on that one. I really can't tell what colour his eyes are. But I figure I should trust such a breeder. His pedigree is all albino and albino splits right back to great grandparents. She said without a doubt he will throw ino babies. His brother was going into selections today I think

I don't think so, are they are very dark. He has faint markings too. His dad was a Skyblue/ino split and Mum was an Albino from a long line of champion Albinos (he's got a pedigree paper which is amazing to read). He will breed ino babies, which is what I was looking for. The hen I have him with is a red eyed albino who is snowy white. He's a lovely big boy with English bloodline and such a relaxed quiet sweetie. He was in an aviary of all males, and when we put him in with Tink he couldn't believe his luck!!! Was funny to see him show off almost straight away. He obviously likes her, although she looks a tad bewildered.

Finally found an albino boy !
Cool! I am just looking at my new boy's pedigree papers. Dad = sky blue/imo (won pine river & wynnum) Mum = Albino (won sexlinked ABS show) His great Great Grandma on Mum's side was texas clearbody opaline grey (1st in Brisbane NS) back to Eric Davis and his Grandad on Mum's side was Abino 100% tony Luxton National Line. There is a whole lot more info on his line here if anyone is interested I can put it online? It was amazing to listen to Camelle.

Ummm... what is a TCB? Got our new boy. He is huuuuge and gorgeous. Camelle showed me around her aviaries and I wanted sooo many birds. She had a selection ready picked out to go to national selection and they were soooo amazingly gorgeous. She had this stunning grey spangle that I just fell in love with.... Sigh! I'll try to get a picture of our new boy when he settles down a bit. He is such a good looker. :)
