  1. Thanks Kaz, I'd appreciate any recommendations you can make.
  2. Hi all. I had a (rescued) budgie named Cheeky as a child. Cheeky was a noisy, communicative bird and although not hand-tame, he was very friendly. My eight year old daughter has asked for a budgie as a pet, and as I had a positive experience with Cheeky, am quite happy for her to have one (and for me to share the responsibility of caring for it until my daughter is grown up enough to do it herself). However, as I am an immigrant (from South Africa), and not familiar with budgie-keeping in Perth, I was wondering where the best place to get a baby budgie is? Our local pet store offers them, but am not sure whether this is the best option. We've decided on a baby as it will hopefully be easier to hand tame (with patience). Although I know I will probably end up doing the bulk of the caring until my daughter has been budgie-tamed (just as baby budgie needs to be people trained!), I would like for her to learn as much as she can about caring for it. Are there DVDs or books aimed at young budgie keepers that you can recommend? I live in north of the river in Perth, and was wondering if there are any local budgie keepers that would be willing to have my daughter and I visit before we purchase her budgie, so that she can see what its really like?
