Thank you. I don't want to breed - but have kept males and females together in the past with no nest box and no babies either. Phil (lone bird!) is at mum and dad's so I'd probably get the new bird(s) and keep them here in the new cage until quarantine period is over. Are even numbers always better then? When mum and dad had three birds they didn't seem to have any major problems - Lil (the girl - bossy boots) went off playing and the boys sat and chirruped together lol.

Hi! I've kept budgies before - but not for a while! In fact a budgie was my first ever pet and she was wonderfully tame. But anyway...... my mum and dad had four budgies but sadly three of them have died leaving one on his own. He's been on his own since about August now and they feel quite guilty about it but they don't want any more birds after this one so they don't really know what to do. They leave the radio on for him when they're not in but aren't really sure what to do otherwise. I've been thinking about all this and I've decided that I'd like to rehome their remaining bird - I miss having budgies in my life! My husband used to have budgies and has come round to the idea too. But if we do have him we'd like to get a companion (or two!) for him but I'm not sure what mix of male / female would be best? Ideally we'd like to get a pair of baby budgies as he's about four and a half years old so we don't want to end up in the same position as mum and dad! But - I know females can be a bit bossy - so would a pair of baby boys be best or would a male and a female work out well - which would give us a trio of two boys and a girl? I'd like to have a girl in some ways as I've found them to be more playful but if three males will work better I'm happy to go with that. We've sourced some breeders though haven't been in touch with any just yet. The cage this lone bird is currently in is very big - too big for our house - so we plan to buy a new one that's slightly smaller - I really like this (( Flight Cage )) and would probably go for this one. Any advice greatly appreciated! Thanks!
