So where do I start. I am South African and has been living in Melbourne now for just over 3 years. Loving it , but my passion for budgies just got the better of me and after about 25 years (when I was 5 and my dad converted a big wooden trunk into a cage with budgies) I have decided to absolutely go at it full on! I have designed my own outside aviary 3m x 1.8mx 1.8m out of steel and colourbond and built it all myself aswell as 6 breeding cages in the shed. I have obviously done alot of research and based my design on all the important bits and pieces.

I have bought a few english type budgies from various pet shops but as we all know ...''what you get is what you pay for''. I reckon I have studied the breeding, feeding programs and genetics to a point know where I feel that I might cull all the birds except for maybe 2 or 3 and get in contact with a reputable breeder. I will keep my Lutino Cock (beautiful speciman) , Albino cock and Cinamon yellow face grey hen and spend a few bucks on A nice big grey green cock .

I haven't joined a club yet but I guess it would be wise too. Well...the question is...Why do we all love this hobby....Do we want to breed the super budgie and win the nationals or do we like in my case just love caring for them...trying to give them the best in all aspects of the hobby? thats where we have to start and yes...maybe one day we can compete with the superstars like Mannes and Lutolf.
