Finger Training Kadhi
I took my new budgie 'Kadhi' on a family weekend for 3 days and have grown alot closer to him. I worked out he enjoys a good scratch around the neck, but he is rarely in the mood to let me put my hand up to his face. Anyway, after a couple of hours (after coming home and putting him back in his cage) I had Kadhi stepping up to my finger. I havn't been able to reward him for it as I havn't found a food he really likes yet (He only takes Millet Spray from me when I take his other food away for a while, and I don't think its very good for him to be wihout food all day as he is only a baby ). Back to the point- I can get him on my finger, do a loop around the perch I took him off and get him to hop back on. I can also take him from the perch and have him sit on my finger for as long as I wish, and he will relax and snooze off. Keeping in mind this is inside his cage. Yet it is the same perch in his cage everytime, and he flys off if it is any of the other 3 perches. I didn't think much of it, but when I took him off the perch and tried to put him on a different one, he flipped out and flew off my finger onto the wire. I'm not sure why this is, and I feel like it's holding me back from progressing with him. Okay so he goes on and off my finger, what's next?

Travelling?
Hey Guys, So I've had Kadhi (formally known as Sparky ) for 5 days now, and today he made his first bit of progress and ate a millet spray from my hand. I was sooo excited, but the parents decided to mention that tomorrow we are going away for the weekend o.o All the other animals are going to be looked after by the neighbour, but I don't want to leave little Kadhi behind for the two or three days, especially since he's so new and it could cause him to become more scared of me again. My parents think it's a good idea to take him too, and Dad brought home a small budgie cage for me to take him in, but even still... I'm really worried the travelling could scare him alot, and there-for put us back to the beginning. Di

First Budgie
Thanks Heaps! I'll be sure to head straight on over and check those topics out. Having had him for only 3 days, I'm already starting to see that this will take a great deal of time and patience. Thanks again

Oh, sorry if that sounded like I was questioning you :S Well, thankyou again. And I will keep an eye on him, he actually appears to be eating his seed right now. Poor bubba, I feel a bit guilty now, eep. x) Anything I can do to help him adjust?

Oop, perhaps they are wrong? He is rather small still and was one of the smallest in there. The man at the pet shop who sold him to me wasn't exactly sure how old he was and said he presumed he was just out of the nest, as they only just got the budgie and his three siblings in a couple of days ago. He has been eating, I am sure. I gave him a millet spray and he had devoured the whole thing within an hour, leaving only the shells on the floor. But I will make sure I take note of that and pay attention. Thankyou for the heads up.

Thought I'd make a new thread, since I have chosen a name for the little guy now. Just to let those that didn't see the last thread know a bit about him. Firstly, I'm not exactly sure it's a 'him' in the first place. His cere is a light purple and very pale blue, but he's apparently only just out of the nest really; so nobody can truly be sure. I baught him from a petshop that the owners we are close to and have known for a long time, the birds are always very lively and healthy; Sparky included! Okay soooo, Sparky has been resting for two days, so thought now that he's worked out where his food and such is, I should start 'taming'. All I've done is sat near him, which makes him edgy and uncomfortable and then I rested my hand in the door of his cage. The poor little guy did his best to stay as far away from me as possible, and make a few of those scared screeches, not the happy sounds >.< He does get a bit flinchy still even when we walk past his cage, and is pretty uncofortable just when I'm sitting beside him (like now). Well it seems that way atleast, he hasn't moved since I sat down, yet his feathers around his face are a bit puffed up.. so then again, maybe I'm wrong? I planned on teaching the cutie to talk... but of course the actual bonding and more basic training comes first. I don't want to straight up say "I'm having trouble!" because he's only been here for two days, and I know it will take time. I really do hope he comes around, and any suggestions and tips are welcomed. Thankyou! -Lilly.

First Budgie
Hey Well.. other stuff. I want him to be a companion, but a trained, friendly companion And I thought it would be fun if he could talk and such, so talking is just an added side... thing, I guess O.o But then again, I'm still not sure that he's a boy.

First Budgie
Hello Guys I have only just joined, so bare with me! ^^ A few hours ago I came home with my very first budgie, a gorgeous little yellow and brown male (not 100% sure). I have been reading up on them for the past week or so and was very attracted to their intelligence, ability to talk and also their adorable looks! Okay, so I'm 15 and I go to school 6 hours a day, so I hope this dosn't affect the 'taming' process all too much ): Either way, every hour I have when I'm home - I'm prepared to spend with him. So back to the point! I havn't named him yet, but I heard K, T or P names are better as the bird can learn to pronounce them easier? They said he was just out of the nest when I bought him, so presume he's about 7 weeks? I let him go in his new cage to check it out and left him to some peace and quiet. For about two hours he didn't move, just sat on one of his perches and blinked; poor boy. But now he seems to be much happier, he has started moving about, chirping and chattering to himself, and eating some millet I left in there for him. I am already attached to the little guy, even though I can only creep up to the cage and watch him at the moment. I'll make sure I get pictures when I can get closer to him, but I guess I just wanted to know your tips on taming. I've read up on the basics and such, from getting him used to my presence to finger-training, but I'm not sure when I should start trying to put my hand in and stuff? He's very flighty. I'll keep you up to date with him too! ^^
