Hi,
I am new to this forum but not new to budgies.
My 2 pairs for some reason are not breeding.
I will start from the very start:
My friends gave me an hexagonal aviary.
I installed it and went to the pet shop to buy a pair of budgies.
They had a large range of birds including ringnecks, scaly breasted lorikeets, lots of cockatiels, finches ( lots), princess parrots, plum headed parrots, slatey headed parrots and green cheek conures and of course budgies.
I bought a pair 1 normal female and one luntino male.
I introduced them to the aviary that had a nest box for budgies and one that was to big for budgies.
The pair quickly bonded,
They were preening each other and the male was feeding the female through regurgitation.
That year they did not breed.
My mothers friend that was a budgie breeder came over and said that he didnt think that the luntino budgie was a male.
So he suggested to get a nother pair.
I went to the same petstore and bought another pair of budgies one was yellow face purple and the other was yellow face aqua.
That pair also bonded so I was looking foward to eggs that year.
But I didnt get them ,
The female of my oldest pair entered the nestbox several times but didnt lay an egg.
The same female has very scaly feet and I have heard that scaley feet on budgies meen its an old bird.
I am at my third year now and at the start of spring.
When will my Budgies breed!!!!
Whats wrong with them????
PS. almost forgot. My male from the old pair puts its foot on the females wing but then the female either moves away or strikes at him to warn him.
I hve never seen the female actually touch him when she strikes but I am worried that this means that this means that she is not going to breed.
Thank you,
Nick
