  1. I've just checked him all over - there are no flies on him. He's not thin and is alert and biting my hand! He is white and recessive pied blue. He has bluish skin under the blue feathers - is that normal or could it be bruising? Thanks again GB
  2. Thanks - we'll check him in the morning for the flies, and take out everything except fresh water and seed. Do you think we should give him antibiotics in his water?
  3. Before breeding both he and his hen were healthy. The hen is still healthy. The cock is not drooping or fluffed up. His first sign that there was something wrong was when he began swaying on the perch. He's been eating normally and his poo is normal. In the breeding cage he's had budgie seed, egg and biscuit (sometimes), seaweed, horse mineral block, calcium in water. Thanks heaps GB
  4. I have a 2-3 year old cock who appears to be drunk. He staggers on the perch and sometimes falls over. He's been getting worse over the last week and has now begun to fly crazily around the cage he was in. He was in a breeding cage for about a month but is now inside in my hospital cage. His hen had layed 2 batches of eggs but none have hatched. The breeding cage is in an outdoor aviary. Can anyone tell me what is wrong with him? thanks
  5. I was wondering if anyone had any hens with strong show genes to go with my green buff cock. Does any one have any or know anyone who does?
  6. I have a 5-6 month old hen who has been laying eggs. She was in a covered outdoor flight avairy (with a male in it that was mating another hen) and she began laying eggs. I took her out and put her in a separate breeding cage (with no nesting box) so she wouldn't get worn out, and removed the egg. But she keeps laying more eggs. If I leave the egg in the cage, she sits on it. I think she is too young to breed. How do I stop her from laying eggs and wanting to sit on them? Thankyou
  7. Thanks for your help. The budgies are in cabinets which are in an outdoor (undercover) flight aviary. There are only the 2 parents in the nestbox. There are mice getting into the flight aviary but we are slowly and surely killing them off. The weather has been about 15 degrees during the week the eggs were thrown out of the nesting box. They have got calcium and iodine blocks, mineral horse block, egg and biscuit, seaweed, pink vitamin powder. We haven't worked out how to put photos on the forum yet. Hopefully that's enough info that you need. Thanks again from Benny
  8. One of my hens that had chicks last season was sitting on 6 eggs again until 2 days ago. In the morning she was fine, but by 4 o'clock in the afternoon all the eggs were thrown out of the breeding box (with half-developed chicks in them) and the shells were partly smashed. Do you think the birds did this, or is it more likely to be mice? Also, if the birds did it, how do I stop them doing it again?
  9. You could always hand rear one yourself! I did that.
  10. Does anyone know where I can get some new show cages?
